Important information for US passport holders traveling to Qatar.

I just flew from Abu Dhabi to Doha, and I wanted to share something that happened during check-in:

I did not have a Qatar visa before my flight because, according to Qatar’s published entry requirements, US citizens can obtain a visa on arrival.

However, the airline agent initially asked me for a visa and mentioned that there had been a very recent change to the requirements.

I couldn’t find any official information confirming this change. After the agent spoke with a supervisor, I was allowed to board.

When I arrived in Doha, immigration asked whether I had a visa. I explained that I didn’t, paid approximately $20 for a visa on arrival, and entered Qatar without any issues.

As far as I could verify, Qatar’s official guidance still allows US citizens to obtain a visa on arrival.

I’m sharing this as a precaution because airline staff may be receiving different instructions, or there may be a recent update that hasn’t been clearly communicated yet.

If you’re traveling to Qatar soon, I recommend contacting your airline and the relevant Qatari authorities before departure to confirm the requirements. I would also allow extra time at check-in in case additional verification is needed.

If anyone has recently experienced something similar or has official information about a possible change, I’d appreciate hearing about it.

There’s an American Airlines credit card (Citi) that occasionally offers an 80k mile welcome bonus, with a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year!

That’s potentially enough miles for this First Class redemption from Paris to Abu Dhabi, with miles left over! 👏🏻

Remember: If you have elite status with an airline, you might also have benefits when flying with its alliance partners! ✈️

We were flying Air France, which is part of the SkyTeam alliance. My husband has Delta Platinum Medallion status, which gives him SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits when flying with other airlines in the alliance, including additional baggage benefits!

But here’s something many people don’t realize 👉 Even when you qualify for these benefits, the booking system might still ask you to pay for things that should already be included! 👀

In our case, we were flying Business Class, but the system wasn’t recognizing our baggage allowance or his status and wanted to charge us €70!

We knew what we were entitled to, so we didn’t pay the fee. And when we checked in, the Air France agent didn’t even mention that our bag was overweight 😂

There’s a smarter way to earn American Express points when you go out to eat!

You don’t need to spend anything extra. You just have to link your credit card once, visit a participating restaurant, and earn TWICE!

Even for Amex Platinum holders, although this wouldn’t be my preferred card for dining, this is also for you!
