It may come as a shock to some of you, but I just flew First Class on Japan Airlines’ new aircraft for just $400 out of pocket. The flight costs over $16,000!

So let’s talk about what witchcraft I used to make this happen.

And if you’re new here, hi👋 I’m Julia. I’m a full-time travel creator who’s constantly learning how to book luxury travel with points, and I avoid flying Economy on long-haul flights.

Now to answer the only question that matters: how did I book this flight without paying thousands of dollars?
I transferred points to Japan Airlines (JAL). I ended up paying 125,000 points + $400 in taxes & fees.

There are currently two programs that transfer 1:1 to JAL: Rove and Bilt.

Capital One also transfers to JAL, and right now there’s a 30% transfer bonus through September 30. That brings the ratio to almost 1:1, but still not quite as strong as Bilt or Rove.

🚨 The biggest thing I want you to take from this is that a $16,000 First Class ticket does NOT necessarily require $16,000.

You need the points, the right transfer partner, and the knowledge to find the seat.

✈️ Follow along because that’s exactly what I teach here.

Emirates serving Japanese food onboard? 🤯

One thing I really liked about flying Emirates from Tokyo to Dubai is that the menu actually felt like Japan 🇯🇵

On the NRT → DXB route, Emirates offers Japanese-inspired options in Business Class, including sushi/light bites, Japanese-style breakfast dishes, and even green tea.

🍱 Emirates says its Japan routes are specifically designed with regional dishes, including kaiseki-style meals and Japanese breakfast options.

🍵 Emirates serves several teas in Business Class, including green tea options such as Sencha and other green-tea blends, although the exact selection can vary by flight.

So on my overnight flight from Tokyo to Dubai, I could have sushi before bed and wake up to a Japanese-style breakfast at 40,000 feet.

Not a bad way to say goodbye to Japan 😂🇯🇵

And if you’re flying this route, always check your menu before departure because Emirates lets you preview what will be served on your specific flight, and menus can vary by route and date.

If you haven’t used your monthly Bilt Cash credits yet, today is the last day! They expire at the end of the month, and tomorrow you’ll get a fresh set of monthly perks to redeem.

One I definitely wouldn’t skip is the $10 Walgreens credit. It’s one of the easiest to use because it’s issued as a gift card, so you can redeem it today and save it for later. You can even use up to two gift cards on one purchase.

💬 Comment GOLD and I’ll send you my free step-by-step guide to redeeming these perks, plus my favorite ways to use Bilt Cash and maximize my Bilt rewards.

And if your Instagram settings block DMs from accounts you don’t follow, my message may not be delivered.

Why I’m transferring 95,000 points from Bilt to Virgin Atlantic 👇

This will help my Brazilians and everyone else who wants to visit Brazil, but flying business class without the price tag 🏷️

Virgin Atlantic partners with LATAM, a South American airline group that operates flights to Brazil from all over the world.

You can book LATAM flights through Virgin Atlantic in Business Class for 95,000 points + $41 each way, per person.

And on September 1st, Bilt is having a status-based transfer bonus to VA. And since I have Platinum status, I can get 100% bonus (cap of 150,000) of whatever I transfer.

So by transferring 95,000 I will get 190,000 which is TWO flights in Business Class to Brazil.

I’ll spend $41 out of pocket for a close to $3,000 flight!

I hope this helps and if you want to know more about this transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic, just comment Bilt below and I’ll send you an article I wrote with all the details!

Did I really pay $5,000 to fly Business Class on Emirates? Ofc not! 🤭

The itinerary was Tokyo (NRT) → Dubai (DXB) → Miami (MIA). This is part 1 of the trip: NRT → DXB.

Emirates was charging 110,000 points + $1,200 in taxes, or around $5,000 cash. But I booked this with Japan Airlines miles and paid 110,000 miles + $400 in taxes.

I’m flying two different aircraft, getting two amenity kits, pajamas, spending 22 hours in Dubai, then going back home, all in lie-flat seats for $400 out of pocket!

👎 Unfortunately, it looks like Emirates award availability through Japan Airlines may no longer be showing, although nothing has officially been confirmed yet.

But this is exactly why I keep researching these programs as the rules change.. and if there’s still a better way to book Emirates with points, I’ll find it and tell you.

As our trip to Japan comes to an end, I want to share a few little moments I witnessed that, to me, say so much about the people here 👇

1️⃣ I was leaving a department store in Tokyo when I saw an employee who had just finished her shift stop at the door, turn around, and bow before leaving.

It was such a simple moment, but it stayed with me. It felt like gratitude/respect. Like she was saying thank you for another day.

2️⃣ I forgot my professional camera in the bathroom of a shopping mall.. and by the time I realized, I was sure it was gone.

I went back to lost & found, and someone had already turned it in. A woman had found it and handed it over: “I hope the owner will come back for it”.

3️⃣ On my flight to Japan, I forgot my jacket on the plane.

A day later, Japan Airlines contacted me to let me know they had found it and would ship it directly to my hotel.

Japan is not just sushi, shopping and matcha.

If you slow down enough to really pay attention, there’s so much more here.

The care people put into things. The way you can feel considered even when nobody knows who you are.

Thank you, Japan, for welcoming us tourists with so much kindness. Every time I come here, I leave with more than what I bought or ate or experienced.

👀 But this trip isn’t over yet.

I’m flying back home on a very unusual route, with an airline I’m a HUGE fan of.

And yes.. you already know I did NOT pay the full price for it 😉 can’t wait to show you everything (flights, destination, and exactly how I booked it).
