Loved the way this F50 is driven, and it took no time for the front-end of gorgeous Ferrari F50 to achieve a serious covering of bugs

After his drive he backed his F50 into the parking space, it was a hot day, the F50 was hot having been on full send (and some), it didn’t miss a beat

I also couldn’t help being immediately drawn to that front-end. Epic car passion 🐎❤️🤩

Two spectacular naturally aspirated special edition V12 Ferrari. The 599 GTO was revealed in early 2010, the F12tdf late 2015. Different in many ways but both intensely demanding and with huge character.

One is a smiling assassin, oozing elegance from its beautiful design but never, ever be fooled, the limit of your capabilities is likely to be exceeded well before this supercar’s monster performance reaches its limits. The other is brutal, visceral, communicates its intoxicating badass behaviour from the get-go (no smiling assassin here) and is housed in a gorgeously aggressive body. Both sound sensational with their oem race-bred pre GPF exhaust systems.

The F12tdf’s new car OTR £ was about 20% more than the 599 GTO’s new car OTR £. Both have strongly risen in absolute terms but the delta between the two (not the absolute increase of each vs their original cost) has increased to around 40% in favour of the F12tdf.

I’ve had both on the track and both are fantastic, tbh I expected the F12tdf to be insanely quick but I was blown-away by the GTO’s razor-sharp responsiveness.

Two greats, keepers too. If you could only have one, what’s your preference? F12tdf or 599 GTO?

When the 812 Superfast was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, Ferrari raised the bar

The 812 Superfast’s gorgeous enlarged naturally aspirated 6.5L 65° V12 boasted 789hp at 8500rpm (redline 8900rpm) and 718 Nm of Torque at 7000rpm (with 80% of the grunt available at 3500rpm)

From 2020 Ferrari introduced, due to regulators, the Gasoline Particulate Filter (also known as an Otto Particulate Filter) into the exhaust system on all 812s. Compared to earlier 812s and the F12 before it (especially the F12tdf) GPF resulted in deeper tones, less of that signature raw, higher frequency “scream” of earlier V12 cars

Thanks who sent me a clip of his 812 Superfast with a new Novitec system deployed. That’s some scream, downshift reminds me of the 599 GTO? 🤩🐎🚀

Brilliantly racing in the Le Mans Classic 2025

The Ferrari 312 P first raced in 1969, the 312 P’s original Spyder body was pretty much built around the 312 F1 car, using the same Tipo 242 3.0L 60° V12 designed by Franco Rocchi, delivering a de-tuned c 420hp somewhere between 9800-10800rpm. The sound remains incredible

Unfortunately the Spyder body (drag on long straights) proved less successful at Le Mans and the third of three 312 P chassis made (s/n 0872) was converted to coupe form using the windscreen of the 206 SP Dino

The introduction of the Porsche 917 however with its new 5.0L flat-12 (although its famous designer designer Hans Mezger said it was a 180° V12) meant the glorious 312 P days were numbered, it was shortly followed by the 512S which was followed in 1972 by the legendary 312 PB

I recently drove the Ferrari 599 GTO around Dunsfold Top Gear track. It was fantastic, little wonder given Stefano Carmassi oversaw the 599XX and 599 GTO projects from start to finish, Carmassi is credited with among other, key projects from the Enzo to the Ferrari Le Mans winning 499P.

In addition, Fernandino Canizzo managed the GTO’s superb bodywork & aero, award-winning powertrain chief engineer Vittorio Dini developed the GTO’s engine, and Martino Cavanna oversaw the GTO’s testing & development

Dini’s stunning 6.0L Ferrari V12 F140 CE used in the 599 GTO is an engineering development of the Enzo’s F140 B unit, further developed to be the 599XX’s F140 CF unit and engineered for the 599 GTO. It set a lap time at Fiorano in 1 minute 24 seconds, a full second faster than the Enzo. One of the greats 🐎❤️🇮🇹
