Sharing for my McDowell neighbors 💛

Dee has been getting busy, and I’m so excited to see her hard work paying off! She’s currently booking about a week out, so if you have an important date coming up, make sure you plan ahead and get on her schedule. Good work takes time, and she puts care into what she does.

I’m so happy for her and for McDowell. This is what a community is supposed to look like: supporting local people, cheering on our neighbors, and building a place where we all feel safe and cared for.

Keep supporting small businesses and the amazing people around you. 💛

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

Nothing goes to waste when we start seeing resources instead of trash.

Eggshells become calcium powder for homemade pet food. Bones become broth, then compost. Compost feeds the garden. The garden feeds us.

Small choices add up. Better for our pets, our wallets, our soil, and our river.

I haven’t shared an update here in a while. Life has felt especially full lately, and I’ve been taking time to move through change, reflection, and grief.

In that space, I’ve been thinking a lot about care—what it means to nurture life in all its forms, both the lives we tend directly and the broader living systems we are part of.

I’ve also been holding questions about future possibilities while staying rooted in the responsibilities and connections that are present now.

Grief has been present as well, for loved ones who are no longer here and for the ways life continues to shift and reshape itself around us.

Still, there is a steady return to the work of care, presence, and connection.

That work remains centered on honoring life, supporting one another, and staying attentive to the rhythms that sustain us all.

Some Japanese concepts and practices that can genuinely support productivity, mental health, stress management, and healthier routines over time:

1. KAIZEN — Small Improvements
Small consistent steps are often easier to maintain than drastic changes. Tiny actions build momentum and reduce overwhelm.

2. IKIGAI — Sense of Purpose
Having a reason to get up each day, whether it comes from family, creativity, community, work, or simple routines, can improve motivation and wellbeing.

3. HARA HACHI BU — Eat Until 80% Full
An Okinawan practice focused on moderation and mindfulness while eating. Many people find it helps with energy, comfort, and avoiding the sluggish feeling that can come from overeating.

4. POMODORO + ROUTINE — Focus Support
Short periods of focused work with planned breaks can help reduce mental fatigue. Pairing focus with a consistent routine or ritual can train the brain to settle into tasks more easily.

5. SEIRI & SEITON — Organization & Simplicity
A cleaner, more organized environment can reduce stress, distractions, and decision fatigue. Environment affects behavior more than people realize.

6. KINTSUGI — Imperfection Has Value
Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery with gold. It’s a reminder that mistakes, setbacks, and healing are part of growth, not proof of failure.

7. WABI-SABI — Acceptance of Imperfection
Life rarely happens under perfect conditions. Accepting imperfection instead of endlessly waiting for the “right moment” can make change feel more realistic and sustainable.

All 7 together create a pretty balanced approach:
small steps, meaningful living, moderation, rest, focus, environment, self-compassion, and accepting that growth is rarely perfect.
