These clients dreamed of crystal-clear turquoise water, a beautiful beach, plenty of included activities, and the chance to explore beyond the resort… and I think we found the perfect match.

If you’ve been seeing photos of seaweed-covered beaches lately, you’re not imagining things.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2026 is shaping up to be one of the worst sargassum years on record.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And yes—even beaches along our own Gulf Coast have been dealing with it (see a borrowed picture of Ft. Morgan, AL below)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So let’s have an honest conversation about what that means for your vacation.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because the last thing I want is for someone to spend thousands of dollars expecting postcard-perfect turquoise water and arrive to find a beach covered in seaweed.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌿 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sargassum is a naturally occurring brown seaweed that floats throughout the Atlantic Ocean. In small amounts, it’s actually beneficial to marine ecosystems.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The problem is that since 2011, the Atlantic has experienced increasingly massive blooms, creating what’s now known as the “Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt.” When winds and currents push these massive mats ashore, beaches can become covered with seaweed faster than crews can remove it. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
📅 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sargassum can appear at any time of year, but the primary season is:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
➡️ March through October⁣⁣
➡️ Peak season is typically May through August⁣⁣
⁣⁣
That doesn’t mean every beach is affected every day. Conditions can change dramatically from one week—or even one side of an island—to the next depending on winds and currents. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🚩 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝⁣⁣

The areas that historically see the greatest impact include:⁣⁣

• Riviera Maya (especially Tulum, Playa del

• Barbados⁣⁣
• Tobago⁣⁣

• Guadeloupe⁣⁣
• Many east-facing Caribbean beaches⁣⁣

These destinations can still be wonderful vacations, but beach conditions become much less predictable during peak season. ⁣⁣

✅ 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫⁣⁣

If pristine beaches are your top priority during summer travel, I often look first at:⁣⁣

• Aruba⁣⁣
• Curaçao⁣⁣
• Bonaire⁣⁣
• Turks & Caicos⁣⁣
• Jamaica’s west coast (especially Negril)⁣⁣
• Some areas of the Bahamas⁣⁣
• Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres (often better
than Riviera Maya)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
No destination is completely immune. Anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. But these destinations generally have a much stronger track record during sargassum season. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🧹 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐨 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐭⁣⁣

This is where choosing the right resort matters.⁣⁣

Many resorts invest heavily in:⁣⁣
✔️ Dedicated beach-cleaning crews⁣⁣
✔️ Tractors and specialized removal equipment⁣⁣
✔️ Offshore containment barriers⁣⁣
✔️ Daily raking and beach maintenance⁣⁣

The difference can be significant. I’ve seen resorts just a few miles apart where one beach looked fantastic and the other looked nearly unusable.⁣⁣

That’s why simply choosing a destination isn’t enough—you need to choose the right resort within that destination. ⁣⁣

I’m looking at:⁣⁣
• Your travel dates⁣⁣
• Historical sargassum patterns⁣⁣
• Which side of an island you’re visiting⁣⁣
• Current forecasts⁣⁣
• Resort cleanup efforts⁣⁣
• Alternative destinations that may give you a
better experience⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sometimes the best recommendation is a completely different island than what you originally requested.⁣⁣

And sometimes that one change can make the difference between spending your vacation staring at seaweed or staring at crystal-clear Caribbean water.⁣⁣
