River & Waterway Monitoring Update

The Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness continues to closely monitor river levels and conditions across the parish.

While water levels have shown only a slight decrease, many low-lying areas continue to hold water. Forecasts indicate east and southeast winds with gusts up to 16 mph today, which could continue to influence water levels and slow drainage in some locations.

We remain in communication with our local, state, and regional partners and will continue to evaluate conditions as they develop. Any decisions regarding waterways or public safety measures will be made based on current conditions and communicated promptly to the public.

Please continue to monitor official Livingston Parish OHSEP communications for the latest updates.

Another update will be provided as conditions warrant.

Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness
Date: June 6, 2026
Time: 6:00 PM

Current Conditions

The Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness continues to closely monitor water levels across parish waterways.

Current conditions indicate that river levels remain at or above the established action levels utilized in making waterway closure decisions. Strong easterly and southeasterly winds continue to influence water levels throughout the Amite River, Tickfaw River, Diversion Canal, and surrounding waterways.

The next high tide for coastal Livingston Parish is expected later this evening at approximately 10:30 PM. This tidal cycle may continue to impact water levels and localized flooding concerns in low-lying areas.

Operational Status

Emergency management officials are actively monitoring river gauges, weather forecasts, tidal influences, and field reports. Coordination continues with local, state, and regional stakeholders to ensure all parties are informed of current conditions and any potential operational decisions.

At this time, no additional changes to waterway closures are reported. All previous waterway closures indicatedin the Proclamation of Emergency are still in effect. Any future decisions will be made following continued monitoring and stakeholder coordination.

Outlook

Water levels will continue to be evaluated overnight. Residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions, avoid flooded areas, and monitor official Livingston Parish communication channels for updates.

The next update will be issued tomorrow unless conditions warrant an earlier notification.

SITUATION REPORT (SITREP)🚨

Date: June 6, 2026
Title: Livingston Parish Waterways Closed Until Further Notice / See Proclamation of Emergency

Authorization: Randy Delatte - Parish President

Situation Overview

The Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is actively monitoring rising water levels throughout parish waterways due to persistent strong east and southeast winds. Current meteorological forecasts indicate this weather pattern will continue throughout the upcoming week, with sustained winds and higher gusts continuing to push water into the Amite River, Tickfaw River, and Diversion Canal systems.

As a result of these conditions, water levels have risen rapidly and have now reached established action-level thresholds utilized for waterway closure decisions. Localized flooding is currently being reported in several low-lying areas adjacent to these waterways.

Current Conditions

- Strong east and southeast winds continue to impact Livingston Parish.
- Water is being pushed into the Amite River, Tickfaw River, and Diversion Canal, resulting in elevated water levels.
- Forecasts indicate continued onshore flow and elevated wind speeds through the coming week.
- Action-level thresholds for waterway closures have been met.
- Localized flooding is occurring in vulnerable and low-lying areas near affected waterways.

Operational Actions

- All Livingston Parish waterways indicated on the Proclamation of Emergency are closed until further notice.
- Livingston Parish OHSEP continues to monitor conditions in coordination with local, state, and federal partners.
- The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office (LPSO), local fire departments, and other response agencies are actively monitoring areas of concern throughout the parish.
- Field assessments are ongoing to identify impacts and ensure public safety.
- Emergency management personnel will continue to evaluate conditions and provide updates as warranted.

Public Safety Message

Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas and refrain from attempting to navigate closed waterways. Conditions may change rapidly due to continued wind-driven water movement. Citizens are encouraged to monitor official Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness communications for updates regarding water levels, closures, and public safety information.

Outlook

Forecast models indicate continued east and southeast winds with periods of higher gusts through the week. Water levels are expected to remain elevated and may continue to rise. The Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will maintain close coordination with partner agencies and provide updates as conditions evolve.
