If your U.S. passport is lost or stolen while you’re overseas, our consular teams around the world can help. Here’s what to do:
️⃣ Stay calm. Our teams can help get you an emergency passport in order to return to the United States.
️⃣ Contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for help. Visit the U.S. Embassy website for the country you’re in to find their emergency contact info and/or their process for replacing a lost or stolen passport. You can also find this contact info at travel.state.gov/destination.
️⃣ Apply for your emergency passport in person. Follow the instructions provided by the Embassy or Consulate regarding walk-in hours or scheduling an appointment as well as what to bring.
️⃣ Apply for a full validity passport when you’re back in the United States. If you apply for the full-validity replacement passport within one year of the emergency passport being issued, it will be exchanged without any additional fees. Learn more at travel.state.gov/ReplaceLimitedPassport
