To mark the 80th anniversary of the Chipmunk airframe this year, and the crew from the Canadian Aviation Museum were inspired to take their 2 Chipmunks to Oshkosh. At best this would have been a challenging flight; wildfire smoke across almost their entire route from Windsor / Detroit to Oshkosh (via Chicago) and pop up thunderstorms throughout the day made for very challenging flying.

Steve flew support chasing Katie and Lisa in loose formation the whole way.

Lisa had a GDL 52 onboard the lead Chipmunk receiving SiriusXM Aviation weather data, and the RV-14 flying chase is equipped with an onboard receiver backing her up. This gave the flight ample situational awareness to reroute and divert as needed (which they had to do 3 times on the way).
