LCF Community Harvest Fruit Project

LCF Community Harvest Fruit Project Here's how it works: Volunteers are assigned to homes with ripe fruit trees. They never get up on ladders or climb. They also clean up after they harvest.

**NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY INACTIVE***

LCF Community Harvest is community-wide, year-round program that connects local volunteers with fruit tree owners to redirect our community's home grown produce to nearby families in need of assistance. The volunteers harvest the fruit (often hundereds of pounds in an afternoon) and deliver it to the Foothill Unity Center in Pasadena. Then, the Foothi

ll Unity Center incorporates the fresh produce into its weekly food distribution program. So, within days of harvest from our community, the fruit is being enjoyed by families who may otherwise go without. It is a wonderful service project for school or scout groups (age 11+) or for families or adult groups looking for a fun, outdoor community activity that can really made a difference. Homeowners with fruit trees really don't have to do anything but sign up and let us know which trees we can harvest! Our volunteers always have an adult supervisor, and come with all the supplies they need. The Community Center can provide a receipt for your donations, which may be tax deductible. For more information about volunteering or if you have a fruit tree to include in our program, please email us at [email protected] or call Monica @ 818-489-4907.

Dear Friends, We are trying to find someone to permanently take over the administration of the LCF Community Harvest program. If you think this is a great program, and are looking for something very worthwhile and rewarding to run with on a long term volunteer basis, please let us know! I would be happy to talk with you more about it. -Monica DeMoulin

She's taken over the scheduling and harvesting for this season and is doing an incredible job! 1,000 lbs. harvested and donated so far this Spring and she's gonna keep going. Please let us know if you have fruit or can volunteer to pick. Yay Erika!!!

Monica's February Fruit Challenge: I will match every 10 lbs. of fruit picked in February with $1 worth of girl scout cookies for the Foothill Unity Center. So, 1,000 lbs picked in February means I'll buy $100 in girl scout cookies for the food pantry! Yumm. What flavors should I get?

Thank you to the CVHS Key Club for last Sunday's pick resulting in 340 lbs of citrus fruit from 3 generous La Canada homeowners!!

Looking forward to tomorrow...We're picking at a few homes in La Crescenta and La Canada with the Community Center's YOEC! Stay tuned for photos and weigh-in.
