When does oversized cargo transportation make more sense by helicopter? 🚁

Moving machinery, vehicles, structural components, or unusually shaped cargo is not always as simple as arranging a large truck. Restricted access, difficult terrain, specialized handling, tight schedules, and precise placement can make ground transportation impractical.

This Fair Lifts guide explains:

▪️ When helicopter cargo transportation may offer an advantage
▪️ How weight, dimensions, access, and timing affect planning
▪️ When ground transportation may still be the better option
▪️ What information is needed to evaluate an oversized load
▪️ How aerial transport can reduce staging and additional handling

🚁🚁 Installing 16,000-pound air handling units above the Las Vegas Strip requires precise planning, experienced coordination, and the right aircraft.🚁🚁

Fair Lifts recently supported Harris Company on a major rooftop mechanical installation for the redevelopment of the former Mirage Hotel into the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The project includes roughly 100 helicopter picks using a Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane, placing oversized HVAC components where conventional lifting methods would face major access and scheduling challenges.

This project highlights how heavy lift helicopter HVAC installation can reduce disruption, improve rooftop access, and keep complex commercial renovations moving efficiently.

Executing a precision RTU HVAC helicopter lift in a high-security urban zone is never simple—especially inside the Washington DC Flight Restricted Zone, next to Reagan National Airport.

Fair Lifts Helicopter Services partnered with Moores Electric to remove and replace a 2,500-pound rooftop HVAC unit at the Fashion Centre in Arlington, Virginia. Instead of shutting down busy streets for a traditional crane, the team used a Bell 214 helicopter to complete two exact aerial picks in a single morning.

In this project recap, explore how the team:
• Planned around FRZ restrictions and coordinated with multiple federal agencies
• Secured FAA approval with a detailed Congested Area Plan (CAP)
• Used a nearby parking deck as a secure staging area to keep the public protected
• Completed the lift safely, quickly, and with minimal disruption to local businesses

When cranes aren’t practical, going airborne can keep projects on schedule and on budget.

At 1375 Seaboard Industrial Blvd in Atlanta, Fair Lifts teamed up with JC Lane Co to complete a large-scale rooftop HVAC replacement using a precision helicopter lift. In just one morning, the team:

• Swapped out 27 old rooftop units for 27 new ones
• Completed 54 aerial picks of 2,100‑lb HVAC units
• Avoided costly street closures and crane setup in a congested industrial area
• Followed an FAA‑approved Congested Area Plan for safe operations
• Used an Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama helicopter for maximum visibility and control

The result: a fast, safe, and efficient operation with minimal disruption to nearby businesses.

See how the project was planned, the logistics behind transporting and assembling the helicopter on site, and why helicopter lifts are a powerful alternative for complex rooftop HVAC jobs.

Sheldon Farm in Fair Haven, VT needed a faster, more accurate way to reclaim 30 acres of rough, post-forest terrain for grazing. Traditional equipment and hand seeding couldn’t deliver the consistency or speed required.

Fair Lifts provided a high-precision dry spreading agricultural drone to:

Apply a custom seed mix at exactly 20 lbs per acre

Navigate mud, rocks, and slopes with zero soil compaction

Use GPS mapping for 100% coverage

Complete all 30 acres in a single April morning at the optimal seeding window

This project at 1020 Sheldon Rd shows how advanced aerial tech can transform reclaimed land into productive pasture while saving days of manual labor.
