Native to the US, I was completely blown away by the beauty of both the landscape and the people. A short time after arriving, I was introduced by a friend to coffee. After attending my first "cupping" (tasting) session, I was instantly enamored with every intricacy and nuance found in each cup I sampled. The intense aroma that filled the room, the exciting buzz of roasters, and the bond that I fo
rmed with those people will forever be some of my fondest memories. I began visiting different coffee farms, processing mills, and eventually starting my own coffee company. We serviced both consumers and local businesses, and I was fueled by sharing my passion with others. Here I was a foreigner, a coffee noob (newcomer), speaking in Spanish, AND selling a product that was produced in that same country where many times national product is under appreciated. Yet despite what most would label as setbacks, I saw it as a unique opportunity to share an incredible experience. THE IMPACT
In time, our team built a successful book of clients and gained notoriety within the business community. Having seen first hand the impact poverty has on people, I decided that giving back was the next step in our journey. By selecting socially responsible product and partnering with local NGO's, we were able to make a palpable difference in the lives of both coffee farmers and high risk families living in abstract poverty. THE TRAIN
Having raised my three boys in Guatemala, they were never exposed to trains. As a developing country, the only effective transport system that exists is via heavy trucks. Every time we would take a visit back to the States, each of my sons would beg to go and see the trains. In one particular occasion, we saw a traditional locomotive train. It was in that moment that I saw a striking similarity between coffee roasters and the locomotive engine, and the concept began to take shape. As a proud American, it represents the fortitude and resolve that has forged the USA into the amazing nation that it is. I have a deep regard and respect for the freedoms I enjoy living here, and know first hand what it means to having been born into a country of abundance and opportunity. THE COFFEE
Returning back to the US in 2018, Locomotive Coffee Co. was founded in Keller, Texas. Armed with my intimate knowledge and experience of coffee from farm to cup, I began sampling beans from all over the globe. I narrowed the selection down to what I found to bring the greatest drinking enjoyment. My hope is that you too find that bean that really lights up your day and connects you to the people and promising life that is all around you. Cheers,
