The Jones Act is essential to a strong, secure nation – supporting American jobs, U.S. shipbuilding and repair, and the reliable domestic service and supply chain that connects our communities.
But the current waiver moves us in the wrong direction. It hasn’t resulted in lower fuel prices. Instead, it introduces damage and new risk to America's economy and workers at a time when long-term investment matters most. Today, our Vice President of Global Government Relations Clay Heil shared that perspective in testimony before a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation.
“At the very moment the Administration and Congress are calling for more U.S.-flag vessels, more American mariners, and more shipyard capacity, the waiver invites foreign-flag vessels into domestic trades and weakens the market certainty needed to build that capacity,” Heil said.
From Western Alaska to Puerto Rico, a resilient supply chain starts at home. And the Jones Act ensures our nation's economic resilience and national security come first.
