Sometimes the biggest step forward starts with pushing past your own doubts.

I'm proud to spotlight my coworker Karen Lake, a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician, who first became interested in maintenance helping her dad at home. In 2017, she saw an ad for diesel tech school, applied that night and started the next week.

Getting into a hands-on field can feel intimidating, especially when you're still building confidence. Karen stayed open-minded, learning as she went and figuring things out one step at a time. Those early moments of uncertainty are now part of a journey that’s still growing every day.

Remember who was waiting at home?

There's nothing quite like that first hug after a long haul and the miles that brought you back to a sweet homecoming.

Looking back at Buddy Staton with his family, you can feel the joy in it. Drivers have always found ways to hold onto what matters most—calls from truck stops, planning the next visit, making every minute on and off the road count. It’s a reminder that being a responsible driver means keeping what matters most at the center of every mile.

How do you balance capacity, visibility and product integrity for temperature-sensitive freight?

I've learned that refrigerated shipping is about a lot more than keeping freight cold. It's about having confidence that products are staying within the right temperature range and knowing that the capacity is always there.

For shippers, reliable flow is the goal. But from what I've learned, that rhythm is being disrupted more often than ever.

To me, freight bottlenecks aren't something to wait out. They're a recurring reality that need to be understood and anticipated.

One statistic that stood out to me: in a recent global survey, 86% of companies reported experiencing a supply chain loss in the past year. The same research identified geopolitical instability, trade and tariff friction, rising transportation costs and concentrated supplier networks as leading drivers of this disruption.

What I find most interesting is that the takeaway isn't that freight is failing. It's that complexity has compounded. When teams can identify what's creating friction, they can start addressing it before a single delay turns into a broader slowdown.
