Founded in 1982 Barry County Transit has become an important part of Barry County as today we carry over 90,000 customers per year throughout the area. As an organization we strive daily to provide safe and reliable public transportation throughout all of Barry County. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Whether you're heading to a doctor's appointment, medical testing, physical therapy, or another healthcare visit, Barry County Transit is here to help you get there safely and reliably.

We provide transportation to non-emergency medical appointments throughout Barry County for riders of all ages. We also offer Med-Van transportation for appointments outside of Barry County, with transportation grants available for qualifying senior citizens.

If you're unsure which transportation option is right for your trip, simply give us a call at 269-948-8098. Our staff is happy to answer your questions and help you schedule the service that best meets your needs.

Congratulations to Sandra Johnson and Jeffery Lord. They were our winners of our special drawing from the Senior Day at the Fair on July 21, 2026. Sandra is pictured here with our Drive Jim.

We had so much fun. We played Plunk-O and gave away so many fun prizes. we also had a special drawing. From bus shaped stress balls to steering wheel shaped fidget spinners. It was so nice to see so many smiling faces that came out for the fun. Thank you for support the Barry County Transit.

Barry County Transit was a proud supporter of the Barry County Fair. This year we participated in the Kids Day Event at the Fair on July 22, 2026. We had a blast. Meet Brooke Hudson, one of the dedicated dispatchers, working behind the scenes at Barry County Transit to help keep our community connected every day.
Recently, a rider expressed heartfelt gratitude after being accommodated for a needed trip—a moment that served as a powerful reminder of how important reliable transportation can be.
“Transit helps people get to medical appointments, the store for necessities, and other places they may not have the ability to get to on their own,” Brooke shared.
One of the most rewarding parts of the job is building relationships with riders. "I really enjoy talking with the riders and helping them in their time of need.”
Working in transit has also been personally meaningful, teaching valuable lessons in patience, understanding, and empathy for others.
For anyone who has never used Barry County Transit, "I highly recommend that they give transit a try. We are safe, kind, and love to help.”

Jerry Chewning

Meet Jerry Chewning, a dedicated Barry County Transit driver who takes pride in helping residents stay independent and connected to their community.
One moment that reminds Jerry why his work matters is helping riders safely up their wheelchair ramps when they can't manage on their own. It's a simple act that can make a big difference in someone's day.
Jerry knows that transportation is often the key to independence. Whether he's taking riders to appointments, the Commission on Aging, grocery stores, or local food banks, he understands that many riders may not have another way to get where they need to go.
One of his favorite parts of the job is helping riders reach the places they want and need to go—and watching students grow and change throughout the school year.
“Transit is a good resource to get you where you need to go,” Jerry says. “Especially if you have challenges like a wheelchair, walker, or simply need affordable transportation.”
Barry County Transit is proud to celebrate drivers like Jerry who help our community stay connected every day.

Barry County Transit attended the Business Expo at the Hastings Highschool Gym this past Saturday, April 25, 2026. We had such a great time. The Trolley was there too. Check out our smiles. A BIG Thank you to our workers and volunteers: Our Driver, Charles Converse and his sister Sheri always sporting a friendly smile.
