Fall temperature swings are a good reason to pay closer attention to your air-brake system. 🚛🍂

According to the FMCSA, moisture can collect in air tanks, and that water can freeze as temperatures drop, causing brake problems.

💧 Drain manual air tanks as required for your system
💨 Watch for unusual or frequent compressor cycling
⚠️ Pay attention to abnormal pressure loss or slow pressure build-up
🔧 If the system starts behaving differently, have it inspected instead of writing it off as cold-weather behavior

Fall is a good time to pay attention to a few things that matter differently when you’re running a loaded truck:

🚛 Cold starts put batteries to the test. A battery that made it through summer may start showing weakness as temperatures drop. Check batteries and connections before colder mornings become the problem.

💨 Temperature swings affect tire pressure. Cooler air means lower pressure, and on a commercial truck with multiple tires, small changes are worth catching during pre-trip inspections.

🔧 Air systems deserve attention before freezing weather. Moisture in the system can become a bigger issue as temperatures fall, so drains and the air dryer shouldn’t be an afterthought.

🧊 Don’t wait for winter to check winter equipment. Wipers, defrosters, heaters, lights, and other cold-weather essentials are easier to deal with before you actually need them.

Fall is the warning shot. Winter is next.

Keep the equipment ready and the miles moving.
