I love Ms. Chang! ☺️
Happy Pride Month. 🌈
Every year, I see the same comments about Pride. Some view it as a celebration, others see it as something being “pushed” on them, but for me, Pride has always been much more.
Pride is about giving LGBTQ+ people the opportunity to exist openly, honestly, and without shame.
For generations, LGBTQ+ people were told to stay silent. Many lost jobs, relationships, communities, and even family connections simply for being who they were. Many learned to hide parts of themselves just to feel safe (myself included). While progress has been made, there are still people today who live with fear, rejection, or the feeling that they have to choose between authenticity and acceptance.
It’s a chance to celebrate love, community, resilience, and the simple freedom to be ourselves. It’s a reminder that no one should have to apologize for who they are or the people they love.
I know families like mine can feel threatening to some people. I understand that our existence sparks conversations, disagreements, and strong opinions, but when I look at my life, I don’t see anything threatening. I see my family.
I see ordinary mornings, school drop-offs, grocery runs, family dinners, movie nights, and celebrations around the kitchen table. I see love. I see commitment. I see the same hopes that countless families share: to raise good kids, support one another, contribute to our community, and build a meaningful life together.
We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re not asking everyone to agree with us on every issue. We’re simply asking for the same dignity that every family deserves.
So this Pride Month, I’m grateful for those who came before us and fought for rights many of us now enjoy. I’m grateful for the people who continue to advocate for a world where everyone can live authentically, I’m grateful for my family.
Happy Pride Month, Y’all. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🤗
