Over the past few years, Savage Gentleman has meant a lot of different things.

For some, it was the gear.
For others, it was the message behind it.
For me, it’s always been about something deeper.

The support over the years has been incredible, but I’m no longer interested in just selling
artifacts of masculinity. The time has come to go beyond existing solely in a digital realm.

I'm here to guide men back to themselves.
Everything I build moving forward will exist to serve that endeavor.

With that, we’re closing out the product side of Savage Gentleman.

What remains will be smaller, more intentional, and far more personal.

Small groups of men.
A few days in the woods.
Fire, conversation, challenge… and the kind of clarity that doesn’t come from another
podcast or book.

Not more information, something you can actually feel.

Before we close this chapter, we’re offering 60% OFF EVERYTHING in the store.

If there’s something you’ve had your eye on, or a piece you want to carry forward with you, now’s the time.

No restocks. No next drop.
Just what’s left.

This isn’t an ending.
It’s a refinement.

And if you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll likely feel where this is headed.
A number of you already know...

More soon,

- Josh

(p.s. if you're eager to get a preview of what this next chapter holds, you can comment NEXT EVENT to get more info for what's slated for June 5th - 7th).

No one is coming to initiate you

At some point, you have to decide
what you’re ready to let go of and step into.

Most men don’t need more information.
They need a place to remember...

We sat around a fire as the light faded from the sky.
Six men.
No audience.
No performance.
Just the quiet understanding
that something was ready to be set down.

Each took a piece of wood
and began to carve.
Slowly. Intentionally.
Shaving it down into something that could catch a flame. Peeling back the exterior to reach the more combustible core.

A feather stick.

Not complicated.
But not something you can rush.

It asks for your attention. It requires your patience. It demands a delicate touch to ride the edge of too much pressure, or not enough.

And eventually…
it brings you to the center of it.

Before the bonfire was lit,
every man chose what he would place into that stick.
Not out loud.
Not for anyone else.
Just something he knew
he was done carrying.

And from a single spark
one by one,
they caught flame.
Small at first.
Then gone.

A pain or struggle let go of and serving to ignite a blaze towards the heavens.

No words, no explanation.
Just fire doing what fire has always done.

Taking what is no longer needed
and turning it into something lighter.

Most men are waiting to arrive.
For
a sign,
a signal,
a permission.

But the truth is…
you don’t find that moment.
You decide.

And when you do…
even something as simple as a piece of wood
and a spark
can be enough.

We often only think of cleaning and renewal in the springtime.

But in many ancient cultures, the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter was a time for reflection and cleansing.

In keeping with this spirit, we are doing some ‘cleansing’ of our own with an almost SITEWIDE SALE to take out the old and make room for the new!

from "The Fire, The Grip, and the Flow of Time" :

To paint another picture from perhaps a less esoteric art, there is a concept called “grips” in the playing of jiu-jitsu and judo. In order to outmaneuver and ultimately subdue your opponent, where and how you grab them plays a vital role... something both players are keenly aware of.

This often results in a fair amount of posturing and positioning often referred to as “hand fighting” in the realm of wrestling, and it can play a large part in whether a technique is effectively executed or not. Much of the contest then, revolves around this chess match of who holds what pieces. Many times, when someone obtains what they perceive as a dominant grip, they will not let go of it for any reason.

There are absolutely times when one must stand his ground and refuse to budge or concede a single inch. But to white knuckle our way through life can only result in injury and pain. Most seasoned BJJ students and teachers wear the hallmark of taped fingers and arthritic hands for their efforts. Years of clinging to fistfuls of material, lapels, sleeves, and cuff of the pants, only to have them forcibly ripped away by their opponent, to then be fought over once again, inevitably takes it’s toll.

Some of the very best competitors in the world abide by this vise-grip mentality, so far be it from me to say it is incorrect or ineffective. It isn’t, but it comes at a cost…that if you live by the sword, you shouldn’t be surprised if you die upon it as well. If you’re currently the best in the world at something or are on the path to achieving that temporary glory, this message likely isn’t for you.

They say clothes don't make the man...

and they're right.

When we say it’s not the shirt, but the soul, we mean it. Your journey, your choices, your quiet work…that’s what clothes can only hope to hint at.

Distilling experience, one becomes more...

For a man, refinement isn’t born. It’s forged in the daily practice of presence, intention, and choice.

Embodied virtue speaks louder than words.

You don’t need slogans because quiet action has its own authority... and resonates deeper.

Character reveals itself in how you show up. Garments echo that alignment when they’re made thoughtfully and grounded in meaning.

It is the man who makes himself.

If this idea moves you, you’re invited to explore the full reflection. *link in bio
