Great time to visit us in Glenwood! ✈️

The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport will be closed for maintenance and improvements from Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 9 a.m. through Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 7 p.m. During this time, Elk Lot parking will be unavailable due to necessary parking lot improvements. All vehicles must be removed from the Elk Lot before the closure begins. Vehicles remaining in the lot will be towed at the owner’s expense.

This is year two of our aviation partnership with Aspen Flight Academy we’ve expanded access for students from Aspen to Rifle and student tuition is fully grant-funded and FREE. It is a zero hour class and there is limited space so sign up now if you are interested, Wednesday evenings online and at simulator locations.

Dick (Richard) Weinberg passed away at Valley View Hospital, 7pm on October 1, 2025. This is a huge loss for his family, friends, the community at large, and the local flying community. Dick was an avid aviation proponent. He was certified flight instructor II, air traffic controller and tower manager, (New York, Aspen, Eagle), airport manager (KGWS), and an FAA administrator (maps and air space). His passion was flying and teaching flying. Dick was also a skier, sailer and loved cars. Although horrifically sad, it was his time to leave us. Dick was preceded by his wife Susie.

Dick leaves behind his son Mark Weinberg, daughter in law Heidi and Grandson Errol.
Dick fought a long battle with the grim reaper. He is in a better place now. He will be missed.

Funeral Mass to be held at Saint Stephen’s Catholic Church, Glenwood Springs, Colorado - 6pm Tuesday October 7, 2025

Community leaders, city officials and descendants of George Sumers gathered Thursday at KGWS Sumers Airpark in Glenwood Springs to celebrate the airport’s future with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event marked just over a year since...
