Let's talk about the ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐จฬ complex in Mexico, because I recommend these resorts ALL the time -- and I know they can be confusing. ๐

Disney World is one giant property, but inside it are several different parks -- Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, etc.

Each one is its own hotel. You book your room at one particular resort, check in there, and that's where your โhome baseโ is.

And this is where Barcelรณ gets confusing.
If you stay at any one of the 4 โentry-levelโ resorts, ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐, ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐, ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ผ๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ฟ. So even though your room might be at the Colonial, you can still eat at Caribe and sit at the pool at Tropical. You have four resorts to wander around.
Then there is:

This is a step up from the first four, with Junior Suites and Suites and its own restaurants, pools and facilities. Palace guests can use ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐ผ๐๐ป ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฃ๐๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฐ family-friendly resorts, but Caribe, Colonial, Beach, and Tropical ๐๐ข ๐ก๐ข๐ง ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ.
And finally:

๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ on the complex, but guests at the ๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐๐ข ๐ก๐ข๐ง ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ to Riviera.
๐ So basically:
Beach / Caribe / Colonial / Tropical โ access to 4
Palace โ access to 5
Riviera Adults Only โ access to all 6
And yes, this place is ๐๐๐.
But that doesn't mean you're spending your vacation hiking from one end to the other. The resorts are connected by walking paths, a beachfront boardwalk, and complimentary double-decker buses travel throughout the complex day and night. ๐
There is A LOT here beyond the individual hotels: multiple pools, kilometres of beachfront, restaurants and bars, theatres and entertainment, kids' facilities, sports, a shopping area, spa, nightclub, 24-hour sports bar, bowling, and more. There are even cenotes across the street from the entrance, within walking distance. ๐

It's particularly good for families or groups where everyone doesn't necessarily want the same vacation.
Grandma can sit at the beach. ๐๏ธ
The kids can spend half the day in a water park. ๐ฆ
Someone else can disappear to the sports bar. ๐ป
The person who doesnโt want to be in a pool with noisy, splash-y children can retreat to their adults only property and visit the others later. ๐

๐ค Which one do I recommend? That depends.
๐ฒIf you're looking for good value, I usually start with Beach, Caribe, Colonial, or Tropical, and choose between them based on desired room category and price available for your dates.
๐ฒ๐ฒIf you want a step up and you're travelling with kids, Palace is worth comparing.
๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒAnd if you're travelling without kids and want the nicest overall option while still having access to everything else, Riviera Adults Only is the obvious one to look at.
The important thing is that when you see six different Barcelรณ Maya resorts come up in a search, you don't necessarily need to figure out which one has the best pool, restaurant, or evening entertainment. Depending on which section you're staying in, you may be able to use all of those things anyway.
That's what makes this complex a little confusing to explain, but also one of the reasons it's such a good option once you understand how it works.
