Postcard Series #4

We were so lucky to visit the Smokies last fall as the leaves were turning colors. šŸ We spent a lot of time in this area just soaking up the views while we could. I remember driving the winding roads for hours on end and wanting to capture every single angle. That’s how incredible the colors were.

We also spent a day in Gatlinburg and it’s one of my favorite memories. We parked the van at the visitors center and took the trolley into town (for only 50 cents if I remember correctly?!) The town was completely decorated for Halloween. There were scarecrows and pumpkins šŸŽƒ EVERYWHERE and it seemed like everyone was in a festive mood.

The best part of our time spent in the Smokies was when we met up with our friends from back home. Together, we got to hike to some incredible overlooks and explore all kinds of new places together… memories I am cherishing extra hard today. ā¤ļø

2020 expectations vs reality

The first photo was created at the beginning of 2020 to give us an idea of our travel plan for the year. Oh my, how things have changed!

Postcard Series #3
While traveling the East coast last summer, we knew that seeing the Statue of Liberty was a must. Driving though NYC in our house didn’t sound so appealing though…SO we made a plan to park on the New Jersey side of the upper bay. From there we took the ferry out to see not only the Statue of Liberty, but also Ellis Island!

My only regret is not going out to Ellis Island earlier in the day. The National Museum of Immigration that is located there has SO much to see. We didn’t have nearly enough time to thoroughly enjoy it and I would love to go back some day.

….Maybe not in the van though. Even though we didn’t go directly into NYC, the traffic was still insane and driving the equivalent of a sailboat on wheels made for a stressful experience šŸ˜‚

Postcard Series #2:
We visited Saguaro National Park back in early February.

One of the things I wasn’t expecting was how tall the saguaros were. I guess I just always assumed they didn’t get taller than your average human? WRONG 🌵

The average saguaro can grow to be 40-60 feet tall! Even crazier is how long they live. Some saguaros can live to be 200 years old. 😲

LIKE DANG.

Welcome to our Postcard Series! The series where we live vicariously through our postcard collection since everything is closed and we’re stuck at home. First up is this postcard from Niagara Falls.

This is actually the first postcard we added while traveling full time! We stopped at Niagara Falls in August of last year, but It feels like a lifetime ago.

I remember the weather was perfect that day and the falls we’re like nothing I could have imagined. They were mesmerizing. I have a distinct memory of just staring at the water rush over the falls for at least 5 minutes and admiring how it looked like a nonstop stream of liquid glass.

Oh and also there was a guy walking around showing all of the tourists a polaroid picture of his friends and then he had us write ā€œpeaceā€ in a notebook. I have no clue why. āœŒļø

Join the challenge of posting a picture (or video in this case) of some landscape from a place where you've been, where the main requirement is that you NOT appear in it. Just a picture, no description. The goal is to flood profiles with landscape photos to give a twist on the situation we're going through.

Copy the text to your status, post a photo and let's travel virtually around the world.

Re*****on Hot Springs is about an hour away from Bakersfield, California and is a traveler's paradise. The all up-hill hike back is pretty tough, but is well worth it for a soak in these beautiful hot springs.

I know a lot of you have been forced to work from home recently and if it's not something you've ever done been before, it can be overwhelming!

Here's a post I made last month with some helpful tools for working remotely. It was originally written as a guide for fellow van-lifers, but I think a lot of these tools will be helpful for anyone working from home.

Enjoy and feel free to share! 😊
