Natures Glory Cabin

Natures Glory Cabin Off roading in the Red River Gorge area along with birding, hiking and some cabin stuff This is our 2nd home where we stay as often as we can.

We are the owners of Nature's Glory cabin located at Indian Creek Resort in Frenchburg, KY, nestled just outside of Red River Gorge. We are from central Kentucky but hadn't been to Red River Gorge for years until COVID forced us to stay in state. We started going to Red River Gorge for day trips in October 2020 and couldn't believe what we had been missing. Before that, when we wanted something cl

ose to home we went to Gatlinburg, TN. After coming to Red River Gorge we knew we had missed out on a gem close to home and couldn't believe we hadn't come here sooner. We started renting cabins in the area in January 2021 and in March decided to buy a cabin so we could come as often as possible. We were very lucky to purchase Nature's Glory in May 2021 from the original builder who was using it as their family getaway. We are thrilled to own Nature's Glory and wish this could be our primary residence. This is certainly our happy place. Coming here is like being in a different world, all the stress from everyday life just disappears. The views are absolutely spectacular and every day is different. Unfortunately, we can't be at Nature's Glory cabin all the time so we have chosen to rent our cabin, letting others enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the area. We use redrivergorgecabinrentals.com to rent and manage our property when we are not there. Please go to their website for rental information.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife biologists have confirmed the first detection of Alabama bass hybrids in Kentucky waters at Lake Linville in Rockcastle County.

During routine fisheries surveys, biologists collected two fish initially identified as spotted bass that were later confirmed through genetic analysis to be Alabama bass/spotted bass hybrids. Additional testing is now underway to determine the extent of their presence in the lake.

Alabama bass are native to parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, but outside their native range they can negatively impact fisheries by competing and interbreeding with native bass species. Biologists are especially concerned about potential impacts to Kentucky’s smallmouth bass and spotted bass populations.

Anglers and boaters: Please do not move fish or plants between waterways. Transporting aquatic species can unintentionally spread invasive species and threaten Kentucky’s native fisheries and aquatic resources.

The baby red-eared slider from the pet store was the size of a quarter. A few years later she's the size of a dinner plate, the tank is too small, and the nearest pond looks like a solution.

It isn't — for her or the pond.

A captive-raised turtle has no experience finding food in the wild, no immunity to local parasites, and no instinct for hibernating through a freezing winter. Most released pet turtles don't survive the first season.

🌿 The ones that do survive create a different problem. Red-eared sliders are among the most invasive reptiles on earth. They outcompete native turtles for basking sites, food, and nesting areas — and they can carry diseases that native populations have no resistance to.

🐾 What to do instead:

- Contact a reptile rescue or herpetological society — many accept surrendered turtles
- Post on turtle-keeping adoption forums — active rehoming communities exist
- Call your local zoo or nature center — some have education programs that take surrendered reptiles

The impulse is compassion. The right version of it is rehoming, not releasing 🌿
