2016 Rule for the Stephenson County Fair on July 10th at 2pm
Final Inspection Ends at 1:00pm – Race Time 2:00pm

Classes: 80 & Newer Wire, Mid-Size, Compact, Mini Vans
Payout on all Classes with 6 or more cars is
1st $500, 2nd $350, and 3rd $150,
If there is not at least 6 cars then payouts with be
1st $300, 2nd $200, and 3rd $100
General Rules:
1. 1980 and newer cars must be a 1980 or newer body style cars. NO 2003 or NEWER FORDS!!
2. Driver’s must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Age 14-17 must have a notarized permission slip and some form of driver’s license.
3. Driver must wear seat belt, helmet, and some form of eye protection.
4. No intentional driver’s door hits. It does happen but you will be disqualified if we feel it was intentional. Do not use your door as a shield either or you will be disqualified for this also.
5. You will be given 30 seconds for an aggressive hit and 60 seconds for a restart or if you are hung up.
6. The only time we will pull two cars apart is when it is down to the final two. If a car is rolled over we will roll it back over and if it is deemed safe then the car will be allowed to run again.
7. No sandbagging or holding.
8. If you have two fires of any kind that need extinguishers to put it out then you will be disqualified.
9. All drivers and pit crew members must attend the driver’s meeting.
10. Any controversies will be taken up at the driver’s meeting.
11. No alcohol in the pits. If any driver or crewmember is caught with alcohol the car with be disqualified and you will be removed from the grounds.
12. Cars are subject to re-inspection before any prize money is handed out. There is a $150 protest fee and you must be a driver in order to protest.
13. You must arrive two hours prior to any shows starting time or you will be charged a $50 late fee and if you do not arrive an hour prior then you will forfeit your entry fee. Please call if you will be late. You will only have 2 chances to go thru tech. If you do not make the necessary changes you will forfeit your entry.
14. Any questions call first. If it doesn’t say you can do it THEN DON’T DO IT!!
15. Judges decisions are final.
Car Preparations:
1. All cars must be stock, unless modification is stated in the rules.
2. All glass, plastic, chrome, etc must be removed before arriving at the derby. Do not paint on the frame or inside of the car. Remove all grease from frame. Bolts to hold any chain can not go through the frame. No foam in frame.
3. All decking in station wagons must be removed.
4. Use motor and transmission of choice but must be in stock location. Motor and transmission mounts can be fabricated and welded as long as it does not strategically reinforce the frame. A-frame or shock towers. No engine mounts, braces, cables, or chains may extend more than 4” in front of or 4” behind the A-frame. Pipe can be no bigger than 1 ½” or ½” thick flat steel. Motor or transmission can not be connected to any part of the cage. Cross member must be in stock location and stock appearing with no extra bracing. Transmission guard may not be welded to the cross member, can only be connected to the transmission. If we feel that it does you will cut it.
5. Use rear end of choice but must be 5 lugs. Welding the rear end is allowed.
6. Radiator must be in stock location. No radiator barrels. Radiator guards can not be welded to the radiator support. NO HOME MADE RADIATORS!!
7. Brakes must be workable and deemed safe.
8. Trailer hitches and any extra bracing must be removed.
9. A-arms and ball joints must remain stock.
10. Original gas tanks must be removed. Your must use a boat tank or well made fuel cell and it must be properly secured and covered. NO GAS CANS!! Plastic gas tanks must be covered with a metal shield. Place fuel cell behind driver’s seat or in the center of the car. Gas tank bolts can not be bolted or welded to or thru to the frame, sheet metal only. Sedans only may have a gas tank protector. It can be no wider than 24”, 12” on each side from the middle of the back seat area. It can not be attached to the back seat panel. Must run straight back off the seat bar. Cannot act as a kicker and cannot be thicker than 2” thick tubing.
11. Tires can be no bigger than 15”. No split rims or studded tires. Valve stem protectors are ok.
12. Transmission coolers are allowed but must be safe.
13. Batteries must be moved to passenger floorboard and must be properly secured and covered.
14. Number must be on both doors and on top of your roof in visible colors.
Compact Cars:
General Rules and Car Preparation also apply to compacts except for the following:
1. Wheelbase is 106 inches or less with a 4 or 6 cylinder motor.
2. 4x4’s can be run but one drive shaft must be removed. NO ALTERING WHEELBASE!!
3. No Frame or Body seams may be welded under the hood.
4. All cage rules apply.
5. One back window bar maybe ran in the middle of the back window. It cannot exceed 2” wide x ¼” thick and must be in front of the trunk seam and cannot be attached to the halo bar.
6. You will be allowed to do one of the following but not both (neither can be 12” behind the front of the frame:
a. Run a stock shock and bracket that cannot exceed 12”. If you do this the shock must be inside the bracket.
b. Run a pipe no bigger than 3” in diameter or 3” x 3” tube. Neither can be thicker then1/4”. Neither of these may be longer than 12”. If you do this option you must have a ½” hole drilled in your frame at the 12” point. You must also drill in your pipe or tube a ½” hole so we can see how thick it is also. These must be drilled before coming thru inspection.
7. You may run 6 leaf springs anyway you want but you cannot double wrap the main and must be not thicker than 5/16”. You may use up to 6 spring clamps. Stagger must be 2” in the back and 1” in the front.
8. You may wedge a trunk but it you do your bumper height must be a minimum of 18” off the ground from the bottom of the back bumper.
Mid-Size Cars:
All compact rules apply plus:
1. Wheel base will be 107” thru 112”
2. Front wheel drive uni-body cars only and be 4 or 6 cylinders.
Wire Cars:
1. Engine, Transmissions, and rear-ends no longer need to be GM/GM, Ford/Ford, or Mopar/Mopar but they still need to be stock.
2. Rear ends may be welded, no after-market axles, and NO BRACING.
3. No performance parts allowed (Example: distributor protectors, high performance motors, etc)
4. No engine cradles- stock motor mounts only or very minimal welding & open mounts in
5. Slider drive shafts may be used.
6. Body mounts must remain stock.
7. Bumpers may be changed but must be bolted on. You may weld the bumper to the shock but no other filler. Also the bumper cannot be welded to the frame.
8. Driver’s door may be welded on 2 body seams, 1 foot per seam. All other doors, hoods, and trunk must be wired or chained shut. One wrap of chain per door or seam. No bolting or cable anywhere.
9. Unlimited #9 wire (please do not call us and ask how much unlimited is )
10. No patching rust or the frame. Patching will only be allowed for safety purposes.
11. Cage rules apply but you cannot have any down bars. No bars can come in contact with the frame. Halo bar must be vertical and come off the back seat bar.
12. Tire rule applies.
13. 1” all thread may be ran thru the radiator support to the hood.
14. Floor shifter and block mounted gas pedals are allowed.
15. You may weld a block from lower A-arm up to the frame but can only be welded to the A-arm.
16. You may change EFI Intake to carburetor setup.
17. Everything must remain stock except the above mentioned items. This class is about having fun and tearing stuff up.
Mini Vans:
1. Refer to General Rules for non-building rules.
2. This class is very stock- intended for the beginner or someone who want to build a vehicle in a day or two. No additional work may be done to the vehicle. No welding, except safety bars and driver’s door.
3. No 4x4 vehicles allowed. Rear wheel drive or front wheel drive allowed in Mini Van class.
4. Vehicle must be left completely factory stock, except as noted below.
5. Remove all trailer hitches, glass, chrome, plastic, molding, A/C coolant, antifreeze and flammable material from inside and outside of the vehicle. Dash may be left in or may be removed.
6. Stock gas tank must be removed. A small metal tank must be mounted in the rear seat area. The tank must be secured and covered. Tank mounting, covering and system must be very safe. Use the properly rated lines. Plastic tanks not allowed as they are unsafe.
7. Electronic fuel system allowed (if vehicle came from the factory with it) but you must mount an easy to reach switch that must be clearly marked on/off.
8. Transmission shifter may be modified (floor shifter allowed) and ignition may be hot-wired.
9. Hood must have 12” x 12” minimum hole to easily extinguish engine fires.
10. Doors must be chained/wired shut in a max of two placed per door.
11. Hood and rear/sliding doors must be chained/wired shut in two places.
12. Battery or batteries must be relocated inside of the vehicle, secured, and covered.
13. Dash bar and seat bars are allowed for driver’s safety. Bars may be connected to each other with door bars. Bars may not extend past the firewall or extend longer than 60 inches. Bars may not tie into floor, drive train, or frame. Cage building rules refer to car building rules.
14. Factory original drive train must be used. Exhaust headers (stacks) through the hood are allowed.
15. Any tire or wheel can be used.
