🚨 TRUCK DRIVER CONVICTED IN PA TURNPIKE CRASH THAT KILLED FATHER AND TWO CHILDREN

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — A jury has convicted 31-year-old commercial truck driver Santos M. Valentin in connection with a Pennsylvania Turnpike crash that killed a father and two of his children.

The July 20, 2024, crash claimed the lives of 43-year-old Donnell Hickson, his 18-year-old son, Decir, and his 11-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said Valentin was distracted by his phone while operating a 47,000-pound FedEx double-trailer. His truck rear-ended the family’s vehicle near mile marker 268.7, forcing it off the highway and into a drainage culvert.

Valentin testified that he was using a navigation app to locate a gas station and never saw the family’s vehicle before impact. Prosecutors, however, presented inward-facing camera footage that appeared to show him scrolling through social media and other applications during the five minutes leading up to the crash.

After approximately one hour of deliberation, the jury found Valentin guilty of three counts of homicide by vehicle and three counts of involuntary manslaughter. He was also convicted of six summary traffic offenses.

Sentencing will take place at a later date.
