One of the tricky things in a well planted aviary is to find fledged chicks. They are so good at disappearing in the foliage and sitting still. Often it is only the parents' reactions and calls that tell me where a fledged chick is located.

I found a Blue Grey Tanager nest empty a few days ago, but today was the first sighting of the fledged chick.

Hungry Blue-naped Mousebirds whistling at my approach with their morning food bowl. A Red Crest Turaco is also eager to partake.

The male allofeeding with a bolus of regurgitated fruit. A sure sign that this pair of Lady Ross Turacos is bonded and will be nesting soon.

One of our clean up crews doing their job. They help eat the w**d seeds and dropped fruit in the aviaries. Plus, they are just plain cute to see running around on the ground.

Aww, darn, my White Head Black Bulbuls have started to moult this week. This means that main breeding season is pretty much done here, and everything stays dry and hot until Sept. This bulbul species does a heavy moult and often goes bald for a couple of weeks.

Update on my Purple Glossy Starling clutch: Parents fledged a strong, beautiful chick today. Note, the dark eye. The yellow color won't come in for a couple of months. Sadly, the other two chicks were dumped out of the nestbox last week.

We have been having a terrible time getting livefood delivered alive, and I think that is what caused the issue. These birds eat a ton of mealworms and crickets, and seem to want the bowls full all day.

Our Purple Glossy Starlings have a clutch of three chicks in the nestbox. Their first clutch of the season, hopefully more to come. Last season, they gave us four chicks - all females. Crossing my fingers that at least one of these guys survives and is male. Hard to find this species nowadays.
