IMC Club at IA

IMC Club at IA The IMC Club is dedicated to fostering flight safety and proficiency through education and experience. Located in south Denver, Colorado.

What is the IMC Club at IA? Simply stated, it’s a group of pilots who desire to enhance their proficiency through continuous aviation education. IMC Club at IA provides a forum where pilots share information in a fun and informal atmosphere. Unlike the typical lecture-type aviation seminar, this Club encourages the vibrant exchange of information by real pilots with real-world experiences. We do t

his by reviewing interesting flying situations and scenarios provided by IMC Clubs or other pilots, including Club members.

Guess they didn't get the training that you need to give these things a wide berth! They didn't attend an IMC Club at IA meeting! :)

American Airlines Flight 1897 was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday night after flying through a severe thunderstorm. The aircraft, which had departed from San Antonio heading for Phoenix, sustained significant hail damage to the windshield and radome.

What a fantastic day! Thanks to Mike H. and Paul C. for coming to Buena Vista for a visit and a flight to the Sand Dunes and back. Very special time with the new Club leaders!

Our final meeting of 2017 is next Tuesday, December 12 at 6:00pm.

The scenario discussion is "An Encounter with Ice," a real-life one experienced by an IA instructor on a recent excursion to the East Coast.

As always, we'll look at an interesting IMC Question of the Month and an Approach of the Month selected by our leader, Chuck Gensler.

It's also membership renewal time! We'll be looking for folks to continue the fun into 2018!

We had a great meeting last Tuesday! Lots of great discussion around clearances, the need to "tune and identify" when flying ILS/LOC approaches, and the scenario "NORDO below the OROCA" provided by PilotWorkshops.

One thing mentioned was EAA's service "Ask ATC." You can submit a question and ATC authorities will answer them. That service is at https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-communities-and-interests/imc-club/ask-atc.

Get answers from experienced air traffic controllers. “Ask ATC” allows you to write your aviation ATC query, and post to our ATC panel across the United States in just a few taps.

Looking forward to tonight's meeting! Not just the pizza, but the cool scenario "NORDO Below the OROCA."
