Established in 1926, the «Mother Road» is the ultimate van life bucket-list trip.

To celebrate a century of pure American freedom, here are 10 non-typical facts:
🌲 Hidden on modern maps: Decommissioned in 1985, you now have to actively hunt for «Historic Route 66» signs.
🌲 The Musical Road: Drive exactly 45 mph in Tijeras, NM, and the road «plays» America the Beautiful.
🌲 Birthplace of the «Motel»: The word (motor + hotel) was coined right on this route in 1925.
🌲 Dirt beginnings: The epic 2,448-mile stretch wasn’t fully paved until 1938.
🌲 Pyramid Geometry: Buried cars at Texas‘ «Cadillac Ranch» share the exact angle of the Great Pyramid of Giza!
🌲 No ocean view: It originally ended in downtown LA, not the famous Santa Monica Pier.
🌲 A moving target: The road was realigned multiple times over the years, there’s no single «true» path.
🌲 Giant «Muffler Men»: Those iconic 20-foot statues were originally built as Paul Bunyans holding axes.
🌲 The Dust Bowl lifeline: John Steinbeck named it the «Mother Road» as it helped 200,000+ migrate west in the 1930s.
