🚨 DOT Inspection Push Is Underway 🚨

Drivers and carriers — the DOT inspection blitz is officially in full swing. Expect increased roadside inspections and enforcement activity over the next several days. Officers will be paying close attention to hours of service, vehicle maintenance, lights, tires, brakes, load securement, and driver documentation.

Now is the time to:
✔️ Double-check pre-trip inspections
✔️ Make sure logs are accurate and up to date
✔️ Address maintenance issues before hitting the road
✔️ Keep permits and medical cards current

A clean inspection protects your CSA scores, keeps freight moving, and most importantly keeps everyone safe out there.

Stay prepared and stay safe. 🇺🇸🚛

🚛🥤 THIRSTY THURSDAY 🥤🚛

Beverage loads can be some of the heaviest and most challenging freight on the road. Water, soda, beer, juice, it can shift FAST if it’s not secured properly. One hard brake, sharp curve, or sudden lane change can turn a routine haul into a dangerous situation.

At Satchell Creek Express, safety always comes first:
✅ Double-check load securement
✅ Watch axle weights closely
✅ Take curves and ramps slower
✅ Increase following distance
✅ Brake smooth and early

Heavy liquid and palletized beverage freight can shift unexpectedly, especially with stop-and-go traffic and rough roads. No load is worth risking your safety or someone else’s.

Slow down. Stay alert. Secure it right the first time.

🚛 TUESDAY IN TRUCKING 🚛

Fuel prices creeping back up… Rates still fighting to catch up… And drivers stuck in the middle trying to make it all work.

Right now, a lot of folks are asking the same question:
👉 How long can small carriers and owner-operators keep running like this? We are fortunate to have several longtime dedicated customer accounts, that keep us moving, even through the hard times.

Between rising diesel, tighter margins, and brokers pushing rates down, it’s getting harder to turn a profit without running harder and longer, and that’s not sustainable.

Some say the market will correct. Others say this is the “new normal.”

💬 Let’s talk about it:

Are rates in your area improving or getting worse?
Are you cutting miles or running harder to stay ahead?
What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing this week?

👇 Drop your thoughts below. No filter, just real talk from real drivers.

Newly released state documents reveal how Indiana plans to fund a major reconstruction of Interstate 70 — and the cost for truckers could be significant.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the proposed tolling pilot would charge commercial trucks 54 cents per mile to travel along I-70.
🚛 What Truckers Could Pay
$0.54 per mile for trucks
$0.10 per mile for passenger vehicles
Full trip across Indiana on I-70:
Approximately $84.25 for large trucks
The tolling system would use open-road electronic tolling, meaning no toll booths — payments would be automatic.
🛣️ What The Plan Includes
Tolling the entire length of I-70 across Indiana
Expanding the interstate from:
4 lanes → at least 6 lanes statewide
Funding:
Reconstruction
Maintenance
Long-term upgrades
⚠️ Why Officials Want Tolls
INDOT says:
I-70 faces serious congestion issues
Freight movement is being slowed
Current funding is not enough to support upgrades
Officials argue toll revenue is necessary to:
Modernize infrastructure
Support growing freight demand
🔄 Alternatives For Drivers
Drivers who want to avoid tolls can use:
U.S. Route 40 and other alternate roads
🚨 Current Status
Proposal submitted to the federal government for approval
Still awaiting response from the Federal Highway Administration
Based on authority granted under Indiana law passed in 2025
🧠 Bigger Impact
Could significantly increase operating costs for trucking companies
May affect:
Freight rates
Route planning
Delivery pricing
🚛 Bottom Line
If approved, this would be one of the more expensive toll corridors for truckers in the U.S., marking a major shift in how infrastructure is funded in Indiana.
