Getting your DOT authority active takes longer than most new carriers expect.

Between setting up your LLC and EIN, applying for your DOT and MC numbers, and the mandatory 21-day wait period, the first phase alone takes roughly 38 days.

Add in another 4 to 6 weeks to process your IFTA and IRP, and you're already looking at a longer timeline just to get cleared. If you want your authority active and ready to go by the first of the year, you need to start the process right now.

You hear the word compliance constantly in the trucking industry, so what does it actually mean?

Generally, it refers to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) established by the DOT and FMCSA. These rules dictate the specific safety precautions you must implement based on your vehicle and cargo to operate legally, pass safety audits, and avoid costly citations.

Even if you're staying within the state, federal regulations can still apply to you. Almost every state has adopted the FMCSR for their own intrastate drivers. Do you know what applies to you?

Failing a DOT safety audit can cost your business serious time and money. A failed audit results in an automatic out-of-service order for a minimum of 30 days. To get back on the road, you are required to submit a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) detailing why you failed, how you corrected the issues, and your strategy to prevent them going forward.

Even if you finish that plan the very next day, you are still grounded for the remainder of the 30-day period. Violating this out-of-service order comes with steep penalties that could permanently impact your ability to drive commercially or own a trucking company.

Don't wait until the audit to scramble for documents. You should be preparing from the very first day you get your DOT and MC numbers. Partnering with a dedicated compliance company can help you track deadlines, manage ongoing paperwork, and ensure your audit is a smooth, simple process.

How much time would it actually take for us to file your UCR? πŸ€” The answer's simple: the same day you tell us you want it done.

As long as it's before 3:00 PM Mountain Time, it'll be done the day you need it to be done. Worst case? By the next morning.

The only exception could be for brand new faces in trucking - if you filed your DOT very recently, the UCR filing system can take 2-3 business days for your DOT number to appear in the system.

There are several states that have a weight-distance permit. If you are operating in Oregon, Connecticut, or New Mexico, with a vehicle that is 26,001+ pounds or more, you WILL need to get a weight-distance permit.

If you are at 18,001+ pounds or more and driving through New York, you will need a NY HUT. Kentucky requires a KYU number at 60,000+ pounds GVWR or more.

If you've started your trucking company, you've already put in the hard work. Let us do the rest. More questions? Comment them below and we'll be sure to answer! πŸ’

Quarter 3 approaches! We're climbing up on the IFTA quarter 3 reports, here's what you should know.

Generally, if you have a CDL vehicle and you're crossing state lines, you need to do IFTA quarterly reporting. If you're driving in New York, New Mexico, Oregon, or Connecticut you will need their state permits AND to do their quarterly reporting. Kentucky's requirements fall in if you're 60,000 pounds or above.

Still have questions? No problem. We're here to help in any way you might need. State permits and IFTA is our bread and butter. Let us know what your curious about below πŸ‘‡οΈ πŸ›£οΈ
