Here’s my take on the D23 announcements last night: I know there are a lot of people online saying it was “underwhelming.” But here’s the thing: Disney didn’t have to set out to “up” their presentation from 2024. Instead, under Josh’s leadership, I think they established a CLEAR message: quality instead of quantity.

Last night was about a lot of fan service: it was showing us the depths of immersion they are leaning into for pre-established announcements like Villain’s Land and Cars Piston Peak; it gave us some new announcements especially in the Disney Cruise Line division which is truly where many of those hardcore Disney fans have migrated to, away from the parks, but at the same time they finally did what Disney doesn’t always do - acknowledged past mistakes/errors in judgements (NPH’s opening number was amazing) and said “you know what, we’re going to fix this:” from Figment/Journey into Imagination, to the Yeti, to taking great care with the Carousel of Progress to honor its tradition, while at the same time, bringing it into a relevancy that matters, Disney showed us that they cared last night.

Last night was Josh stepping up, as a true parks guy, and giving fans what they want with past issues they’ve had with different attractions, showing us the depth of care and creativity into the major announcements of 2024, and at the same time, gave us some new stuff that we can look forward to. To be honest, had they come out and gave us too much more “flashy”new stuff, I would have been much more skeptical. Well done Disney, well done.
