Parents and children learn about works of art together in the galleries, participate in hands-on activities as a family, and create a work of art together in the studio. During the program, parents learn techniques and skills for creating their own educational experiences in the gallery. Explore fashion in the Museum’s collection and think about how our clothes tell others about us. In the studio, transform an ordinary block of wood into a character complete with a designer outfit that you get to design! C3

January 28, 2012; 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. The Dallas Museum of Art’s Autism Awareness Family Celebrations provide a safe, comfortable way to introduce the Museum to families of children with autism and show them how they can have a successful visit to the Museum with their child on the Autism Spectrum. Pre-registered families can visit the Museum free of charge and enjoy the Museum’s Center for Creative Connections (C3) before the Museum opens to the public. Explore color! Enjoy a morning filled with colorful experiences including art-making in the studio, a brightly hued interactive musical performance, and a new story board in the Young Learners Gallery. Meet and watch an artist demonstration with Grant Marnier, a talented 16-year-old artist from Houston who will share his eco-friendly artwork made from magazines, wallpaper, posters, food wrappers, puzzles, and other found objects.

The South Dallas Cultural Center. Kicks Off Their First Theater Production of 2012 (Dallas, Texas) - “My Tidy List of Terrors” is a coming of age tale based in Atlanta in 1980. American history and African rituals are intertwined and a mother and son’s perspectives on salvation clash. Written by award-winning playwright, Jonathan Norton and directed by internationally acclaimed director Cora Cardona, My Tidy List of Terrors was commissioned by the South Dallas Cultural Center’s Diaspora Performing Arts Commissioning Program.
