I DID EVERYTHING THEIR CHECKLIST TOLD ME TO DO TO START MY NON-EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS.

LLC.
EIN.
Van.
Insurance.
Broker.

And I still didn’t understand what NEMT business model I had actually built.

I waited 18 months to get onboarded with the broker — and another four months before I took my first trip.

By then, I had already put in my notice at the dialysis center, I was tapped out, and not long after, I had to shut the company down.

What I wish I understood before I bought that van was this:

The van is equipment. Your NEMT business model comes first.

Because when the business model comes first, you decide how your NEMT business is going to get paid before you decide what equipment it needs.

I had built a broker-first NEMT business model and didn’t even know it.

Self-pay had never crossed my mind as another option.

And those two business models are not built the same way.

A broker-first business model can rely on brokers to send trips.

A self-pay business model has to be visible, marketed, and built to reach direct-paying customers.

That’s why I created NEMT Setup Certainty™.

Inside, I help you look at:

What you filed — and what those decisions are actually saying about your NEMT business model.

What you built — whether your setup leans broker-first, supports self-pay, or lands somewhere in between.

What needs your attention next — especially if self-pay is the direction you want to go.

This is not another NEMT startup checklist.

It’s the framework I wish I had before I bought the van and started checking boxes.

I put it into 9 quick lessons so you can look at what you already have and finally understand what NEMT business model you’ve been building.

NEMT Setup Certainty™ is $44.

If self-pay is where you’re headed, first know what you’ve already built.

You started your NEMT business — but do you actually know what you built?

In this live, Coach Willena McGee, RN, BSN breaks down one of the biggest mistakes new non-emergency medical transportation owners make: following a setup checklist without understanding the business model behind it.

We’ll talk about:

• Broker-first vs. self-pay NEMT models
• Why your LLC, EIN, NPI, and D&B profile matter
• What your business setup may be communicating
• Why Medicaid and broker contracts are not the only path to revenue
• How to stop copying influencers and start making CEO-level business decisions

If you already started your NEMT company — or you’re getting ready to — this conversation will help you understand what to look at before you keep filing, applying, buying, or borrowing.

Ready to get clear on your setup?

NEMT Setup Certainty™ gives you nine quick lessons to help you understand what you built and what may need another look.

THE BROKER SAID 6–12 MONTHS.
BUT YOUR VAN PAYMENT DIDN’T STOP. 👇

You bought the van.

You’re paying the insurance.

You followed the NEMT blueprint you were given:

LLC.
EIN.
Vehicle.
Insurance.
Broker applications.

And now you’re being told to wait.

But here’s the part nobody explained:

Those weren’t just startup steps. You were building a business model.

And for a lot of NEMT owners, that model was built around the broker.

So before you start changing your paperwork, adding services, or trying to move into self-pay, you need to know what you actually built.

Is your NEMT business broker-first, built with self-pay in mind, or somewhere in between?

That’s what I walk you through inside my NEMT Setup Certainty™ Framework.

Click below and grab the NEMT Setup Certainty™ Framework. I’ll show you exactly how to figure out what you built, whether it matches the self-pay direction you’re trying to go, and what needs your attention before you make your next move.

NEMT Business Paperwork: What Most Owners Never Read

An NEMT owner sent me her paperwork, and it took me about ten seconds to see what she
had missed.

And I'm not saying that to brag. I'm saying it because I see it all the time.

Y'all send me screenshots all day. The LLC approval. The EIN letter. The D-U-N-S
confirmation.

And I'm glad you have them. I am.

But have you read them?

Not looked at. Read.

Because those documents reflect decisions that were made about your non-emergency
medical transportation company. Either you made them fast and kept moving, or you paid
somebody and they made them for you and you never went back and looked.

Six months later you're emailing me asking what's next.

I don't want you to just follow instructions. I want you understanding your own company.

Go pull your paperwork. Then come see me.

NEMT Business Setup: What Did You Actually Build?

I ask NEMT owners what they built, and they start naming me documents.

LLC. EIN. D-U-N-S. NPI.

Okay. Those are documents. That's not what I asked you.

Did you set your non-emergency medical transportation company up around broker
contracts? Around self-pay clients? Or did you never actually make that decision at all?

That last one is a lot of y'all. And I'm not saying it to be mean — you were following
a list, and nobody told you there was a decision buried in there.

But that decision got made whether you knew it or not. And now you're operating the
company that came out of it.

So when you tell me your NEMT business is set up — set up for what?

Before you start your NEMT business, pause.

Not to talk yourself out of it - but to make sure you understand what you are building before you begin spending money.

Every future NEMT founder should be able to answer five questions:

1. What does NEMT actually mean?
2. How is it different from emergency transportation?
3. How much can it really cost to start?
4. Do you need a CDL?
5. Why does being busy not automatically make a company profitable?

I put the answers to all five inside a free Google Doc.

This guide will not replace your state-specific research or complete business plan. It will help you recognize the decisions you need to make before buying a van based on assumptions.

Start with the questions. Understand the answers. Then build.

Is $25,000 enough to start an NEMT business?

Maybe. But the amount of money you have is only part of the answer.

A founder can spend $25,000 and still be underfunded if the money is used without a complete plan.

Vehicle costs, commercial insurance, equipment, training, business systems, marketing, and operating reserves can add up quickly. Starting with money is not the same as starting with a strategy.

The better question is:

“What must my business be prepared to fund before it can complete trips consistently and profitably?”

I answer that question - along with four other questions every NEMT founder should understand - inside my free Google Doc.

Before you finance a vehicle, pay a deposit, or start purchasing equipment, read this first.

I lost my first NEMT company.

Not because I didn't work hard.

Not because I did not care about the people I served.

And not because I was not busy.

I lost it because there were foundational business questions I had not answered early enough. By the time I understood what I was missing, the lessons were expensive.

That experience changed the way I teach NEMT founders today.

Before the logo, the vehicle, the uniforms, and the first trip, you need to understand what you are building, what it will really cost, and how the business will become profitable.

That is why I created “5 Questions Every NEMT Founder Needs Answered Before You Buy the Van.”

It is a free Google Doc built from experience - including the lessons I learned the hard way.

Click or comment "Learn More" to get your free copy and get the answers before your mistakes become expensive lessons too.
