POLICE LAUNCH WEIGH STATION CRACKDOWN ON TRUCKERS

SOMERSET - Traffic slowed along the highway corridor earlier this morning as vice squad detectives established a temporary checkpoint.

Lieutenant Caleb Gaines directed officers as commercial rigs pulled off the main thoroughfare into the scale yard. Local police stopped semi truck drivers at a weigh station just off the highway earlier this morning in order to inspect the trucks for prostitutes.

Investigators searched sleeper cabs and cargo compartments as part of an ongoing vice squad crackdown on illicit activity stemming from local truck stops such as the Flying J travel center in Somerset.

Deputies issued several citations and warned commercial operators that surprise inspections will continue throughout the month.

"Commercial cabs will not serve as mobile brothels," Gaines grumbled. "We are cleaning up this transit corridor one truck at a time!"

This is a developing story.
