Many countries enforce a "six-month rule" requiring your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip. Others only require it to be valid for the duration of your stay or 3 months beyond your planned departure.

Key Rules to Consider:
The 6-Month Club: Destinations like the UK, Thailand, Egypt, and Indonesia strictly require 6 months of validity. If you don’t meet this, airlines will deny you boarding.

The 3-Month Club: The 29 European countries in the Schengen Area (such as France, Italy, and Spain) require your passport to be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure date.

U.S. citizens can return to the United States on their U.S. passport up until the exact day it expires.

Some destinations, like Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, allow you to visit as long as the passport is valid for the duration of your stay.

Because passport rules are strictly enforced and subject to change, verify the exact entry requirements for your specific destination by searching your destination on the U.S. Department of State Country Information page.
