For more Operation Orca visit our blog at: http://operation-orca.blogspot.com/ This page was designed to allow carefree sharing, research, and discussion among aficionados of the iconic boat 'ORCA'. Due to previous attempts to flash mob attack this page from the likes of those that have made it their purpose to try and destroy our goal to keep the legend of this boat alive, we've designed the foll
owing FAQ to ensure clarity for those who may have been persuaded to believe Operation Orca is anything but a law abiding fan-based organization by, and for finfans of the film JAWS. ABOUT OO:
Do you re-post images found on the net? In fact its what most every member on Facebook does. Its why Facebook continues to survive. Content drives facebook, just like Hooper drives the boat. Why do you place an OO watermark or logo on some images you repost? We place watermarks on some images so that we can help spread the word about OO so you the reader can easily find us on the net. Its quite possible why you're here reading this FAQ. Q: Isn't reposting the images found on OO a form of plagiarism? This is because we make NO claim to having created third party work(s) we re-post, nor do we profit or intend to ever profit from any third party works we re-post. We do in many cases use content found on the net and either crop or modify depending on requisite visual appeal, but again, we do not make claim nor have we ever made claim to having created or owned anything we did not create. We urge anyone to find proof to the contrary. In fact each and every time someone contacts us and asks who created an image or the artwork in an image we obligingly share that information right here on OO. Ask Steve Awalt of Spielberg films for instance. Q: I've heard OO is in some way posting images that it has no right to post. Have you ever posted an image on Facebook? You probably have. Have you ever asked the copyright holder for permission before doing so. Probably not. And why should you unless you plan to profit from it. We DO NOT profit from third party images without explicit permission granted nor have we ever. In some cases however, and/or when possible we do sometimes ask and are granted permission out of politeness if the source is not a friend, member, or previous member of OO. But where we either do not readily know the source artist, or do not have a reasonable way to contact them, we will usually wait for the artist or copyright holder to contact us and politely request removal, and/or grant permission should they choose to. Its important to note that we are under no legal obligation to remove content, however we will do so if a polite request is made. And we stress 'polite' as opposed to a belligerent demand. You'd be surprised how difficult it is for misinformed individuals to be polite rather than jumping the gun. Q: Does OO create original art, graphics, and other content or is everything posted here third party? A: Yes we do on occasion create original art, photos, and other content. Surprised? We aren't. We've been creatively inclined for years. Not only have we created effective banners and ads for OO and others (including one of our former members who is now a lead OO hacker/detractor), we have an in house team of artisans creating a line of miniatures. Like the Mini ORCA creations we've created over the years

Q: So why do I hear some negative comments and accusations from certain fans in certain cliques? A: Key words...."certain fans' and 'cliques'. Its incredible how rumors can create hysteria. And rumors being rumors are just that. Rumors. And cliques...well you know how inbred and immature they can be. Q: Is it true certain individuals have been trying to have OO removed from Facebook for no other reason than to try and gain a monopoly over this niche fin-fandom, in order to try and limit the ability to voice their enthusiasm for this film and boat? A: Yes. Certain individuals made it publicly known their desire to try and have OO removed from Facebook, but in light of this odd attempt, Facebook in its infinite wisdom, simply does not cater to evil intent nor unfounded negative, slanderous, libelous behavior. Its not why Facebook exists. Facebook was designed for friendly social networking and communication. And in that frame of mind we've been in existence as an organization since 1998 with one goal; to keep the legend of this old boat alive. Along the way, we've dealt with the trolls and egomaniacs that every fan base is deluged with, however rumors do not, and will not sink this boat. We're having too much fun, and we hope you will too. That's why we do this. For fun. For beer, and well, call it crazy, but its a nostalgic passion of ours. Why a fan group to help save a boat has been on occasion attacked and libeled is beyond us, but float on we do...and will as long as there's a supply of Boston baked beans n' 'Gannsett in the cargo hold. Q: If I want to re-post or share something I find on Operation Orca in a not for profit manner on Facebook or another website do I need your permission? A: Nope. If we freely posted it on the net, it's on the net and free to share in a 'not for profit' manner unless we specifically state otherwise, politely contact you with a request for removal, or make other applicable restrictions known. Q: How do I join Operation Orca? A: There really isn't any criteria for joining other than being a cool and jovial fan of this old boat...and film. Love of beer and beans optional.
