DOT inspections don't have to be stressful , if you're prepared.
Whether it's a roadside check or a scheduled audit, having your documents, equipment, and records in order is the difference between passing clean and getting hit with fines, delays, or an out-of-service order.
We put together a carrier checklist covering the three areas that matter most:
Step 1 - Documents. MC authority, certificate of insurance, vehicle registration, CDL, bills of lading, and medical examiner's certificate. All must be current and accessible.
Step 2 - Vehicle and trailer. Lights, tires, brakes, tie-downs, lift gate, fire extinguisher. The basics that get overlooked until it's too late.
Step 3 - Common violations to avoid. Hours of service issues, expired insurance, unsecured cargo, brake defects, missing BOLs, and tire violations account for the vast majority of out-of-service orders.
