Niagara Falls is impressive from the overlooks, but Cave of the Winds puts you right in the middle of it. 🌊

You descend into the Niagara Gorge and follow the wooden walkways toward Bridal Veil Falls, with the roar getting louder and the spray getting heavier with every step. By the time you reach the Hurricane Deck, you’re close enough to feel the power of the falls crashing all around you.

It’s loud. It’s wet. It’s a little chaotic. And it’s an absolute blast.

If you’re visiting Niagara Falls and want more than just a great view, Cave of the Winds is one experience I wouldn’t skip.

Worth the Drive tip: Go early in the morning or later in the day if you can. The lines can get crazy around midday, and you’ll enjoy the experience a lot more with a little less waiting.

Letchworth State Park was one of those places that leaves you speechless.

The Genesee River cuts through a massive gorge, waterfalls crash between the cliffs, and nearly every overlook gives you a different perspective. We even caught a rainbow in the mist, which pretty much sealed the deal. 🌈

What I really liked about Letchworth is that you can take in some incredible views without needing to make it a huge hiking day. We stopped at several overlooks, took our time, and still fit it smoothly into our road trip.

They call it the Grand Canyon of the East, and honestly, I get it.

Gettysburg is one of those places where you really need to know what happened where you’re standing to fully appreciate it.

One of the best things we did was use the National Park Service app and its audio guide while driving the battlefield. As you move from stop to stop, it explains what happened in that exact area, who was fighting there, and why that piece of ground mattered.

Suddenly you’re not just looking across an open field or standing beside a monument. You can actually picture the battle unfolding around you.

We drove the battlefield with the kids, stopped at the major locations, listened along, explored, and learned a ton without feeling like we were stuck inside a history lesson.

If you’re planning a trip to Gettysburg, download the NPS app before you go and use the audio tour. It genuinely brings the battlefield to life.

McConnells Mill State Park was one of those stops we almost could’ve driven right past… and I’m glad we didn’t.

An old gristmill tucked into the gorge, a covered bridge, rushing water, massive rocks, and scenery everywhere you turn. It doesn’t take a full day to enjoy either, which makes it an awesome road trip stop if you’re traveling through western Pennsylvania.

Sometimes the places you know the least about end up being some of the best surprises.

Randyland was easily one of the most unexpected and colorful stops of our travels.

Tucked away in Pittsburgh’s North Side, this free outdoor art space is packed with bright murals, recycled art, quirky displays and something different everywhere you look. The kids had fun exploring, and honestly, the adults did too.

It does not take hours to enjoy, which makes it a perfect add-on while visiting Pittsburgh. Unique, family-friendly and absolutely worth the drive.

There’s just something about an old church.

The towering steeples, worn wooden pews, stained glass, hand-carved details, and quiet sense of history make us stop and look a little longer. Some are grand and ornate, others are simple and weathered, but each one feels like it has a story to tell.

On this Sunday, we’re looking back at a few beautiful churches we’ve come across during our travels. They may not always be the main destination, but they’re often the kind of unexpected stop that makes a trip feel special.

Sometimes the best places are the ones that make you slow down, look up, and appreciate what was built long before you arrived.

Joshua Tree to Las Vegas, but make the drive part of the adventure. 🌵➡️🎰

Instead of racing straight from the desert to the Strip, we broke up the route with three stops that were completely worth it:

🦖 Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner for burgers, retro nostalgia, and a stroll through Diner-Saur Park

🎨 Seven Magic Mountains for a quick, colorful roadside stop

🏜️ Red Rock Canyon for huge views and one last desert adventure before the Vegas lights

From climbing boulders in Joshua Tree to cruising into Las Vegas after dark, this entire travel day delivered.

Sometimes the best part of a road trip is everything between the two places pinned on the map.

Ever wanted to spend the night inside the world of Cars? 🚗🌵

The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona, helped inspire the Cozy Cone Motel from the movie, and it is every bit as fun and quirky as it looks.

Guests sleep inside vintage concrete teepees surrounded by classic cars, glowing neon and plenty of old Route 66 charm. Better yet, it makes a perfect overnight stop on the way to Petrified Forest National Park.

Unique place to stay, iconic roadside history and a national park just down the road?

Definitely worth the drive.

Western North Carolina is home to more than 300 waterfalls, and some make you earn the view.

Just outside Cherokee, the trail to Mingo Falls begins with a climb up 161 steps. It’s a short hike with a steep start, but the view waiting at the top is absolutely worth it.
