Drove 90 minutes from Charlotte to see what Columbia, SC was actually about.
This Tennessee Vol was in enemy territory being it’s the home of the Gamecocks, but there’s a lot there if you look around.
Dinner at Prohibition - Columbia where the grilled octopus was the right call and then went across the street because I heard about the Urban Tiki bar. They had to show me where it was, but as you can see the place was 🔥
The good stuff isn’t always obvious, you have to move around and see what’s there.

Hear me out. I was walking around the Gothic quarter in Barcelona. I’m in one of the best food cities in the world. Tapas, pintxos, Michelin stars on every corner. And I ended up at a place called Hot.

Best decision I made all week.

The Pikantwurst: spicy sausage, caramelized onions, shoestring fries, spicy honey, smoky mayo foam. That last ingredient alone should tell you this wasn’t a ballpark situation.

Then I ordered chips on the side. Forgot I wasn’t in America. Chips are chips over there, not fries. Just crisps sitting next to my gourmet hot dog. Very humbling. Very delicious.

Sometimes the unexpected stop is the best one.

Riding public transit in a foreign city is one of the best decisions you can make. The Barcelona transit system covers tram, metro, and bus. If you're staying outside the city center like I was at the SLS, it's the move. Three days of unlimited rides for €27.30. You're moving through the city the way people who actually live there do. That's the experience.

A sunny day in Charlotte’s South End.
Folia for coffee and a crunchwrap. Jeni’s Ice cream for a strawberry parfait. The historic water tower watching all of it. Sometimes “Beyond the Itinerary” isn’t a flight. It’s a neighborhood you walk past every week without really seeing.
