Safe Kids Cleveland County Accidents are the leading cause of injury and death in children. The misson of Safe Kids Cleveland County is to "reduce these accidental injuries".

Safe Kids Cleveland County is one of more than 600 coalitions affiliated with Safe Kids Worldwide, an organization whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury. Our coalition is comprised of local government, health and safety agencies, educators, businesses and individuals dedicated to this mission and began as an effort to reduce childhood injuries and deaths that were occurring in ou

r county. Dr. Mike Barringer, Trauma Surgeon and founding leader of Safe Kids Cleveland County, stated, "I want to work myself out of a job. I don't want to tell parents anymore that they have lost a child to a preventable injury". Our lead organization for Safe Kids Cleveland County is Cleveland HealthCare Foundation, a part of the Cleveland County HealthCare System, who is dedicating staff and support for coalition coordination. We are funded by grants and donations and our members are comprised of representatives from various agencies and individuals that are passionate about reducing childhood injuries. Some of our major programs and activities are Kid Tips, SAFETeens, Car Seat Checks, Bicycle Helmet Distribution, and Education Programs - please visit our website for upcoming events.

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, join us on Monday, August 31st, from 12:00–2:00 PM at the Totally Free Clothes and Thrifty Thrift Store in Shelby for a free community event honoring those we've lost to overdose. 💜

This gathering will include:
• Community resources
• A remembrance wall
• Guest speakers
• A moment of silence in memory of those lost

Free pizza and water will be provided. An ICEE truck will also be on-site for those who wish to purchase one.

Come together with your community to remember, honor, and support one another. Everyone is welcome.

Splash season is here! 🌊 Before you head out, remember Cleveland County has five free life jacket loaner stations waiting for you, courtesy of Safe Kids Cleveland County.

Every station is stocked with U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets in sizes from infant to adult, completely free to borrow. Just grab one, wear it while you're on the water, and drop it back off when you're done so it's ready for the next family.
