The crew is what takes decades to build.

Art handling is a master trade that few outside the industry know exists. Rigging heavy sculpture. Working at height. Knowing when a piece demands a crane and when it requires four people carrying it by hand. Knowing to protect the floor and doorframe just as carefully as the artwork itself.

Sealed and on its way. This crate holds works from Mel Chin’s Interpretation of Vision series, headed to Shiva Gallery for Uneven Geographies — and we shipped it at no cost, because good art deserves safe passage.

Uneven Geographies opens September 3, 6–8pm, with a performance by Raneem Ayyad at 7pm. On view through October 30 at Shiva Gallery, John Jay College (CUNY).

North Carolina has two art markets and, until now, no scheduled way to move work between them.

The Piedmont Triad — Winston-Salem, Greensboro. The Research Triangle — Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh. Two hours apart, and the options were an ad hoc van or a slot on a week-long run that happened to pass through.

Piedmont Crossing is a monthly climate-controlled shuttle from the Atelier 4 Charlotte base through both. Six stops, two days. Two A4 art handlers on every truck, no off-route charges, and a published schedule you can plan an install around.

First departure September 22. Then October 20, November 17, December 15.
