Moms At Sea Travel with Brenna Foos

Moms At Sea Travel with Brenna Foos I'm an Independent Advisor through Moms at Sea, powered by Dream Vacations. Hi, I’m Brenna! Born and raised in beautiful Colorado.

My main focus is cruising (mostly Royal Caribbean), as well as booking adventures with Disney and Universal Studios. I’ve always had a deep love for the Rocky Mountains, but the call of the sand and sea have captured my heart just as much. Maybe that’s what happens when you grow up landlocked! By day, I’m a mental health therapist, and by vacation, I’m a passionate traveler who believes wholeheart

edly in the power of a good getaway to refill your cup. My love for travel really took off during college when I studied abroad in Ireland, which was a life-changing adventure full of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences. That time taught me how powerful stepping out of your comfort zone can be, and how much the world has to offer when you do. These days, I’m a proud (and very busy!) boy mom to three amazing boys, ages 9, 5, and 1. Our family has been traveling together since they were babies, and we’ve embraced it all! From Disney magic, to road trip chaos, to our all-time favorite, Royal Caribbean cruises, we love to adventure! And although traveling with little ones isn’t always a breeze, the memories we’ve made along the way are worth it all! Planning travel has become one of my greatest joys -- from the packing lists, to finding the perfect family friendly excursions, to hunting down the best local bites, I truly love it all! Whether you're dreaming of a relaxing escape, a family adventure, or a last-minute getaway, I’m here to help you bring those dreams to life!

One of the things that I highly encourage when taking kids on a cruise is to take advantage of the formal dining room. We have done cruises where we have intentionally strayed away from the formal dining room out of fear for our child's behavior, noise level, or messes. However, going to the buffet often results in multiple trips, back-and-forth to get different plates for each kid, trying to balance a baby on your hip while also carrying a plate of food, and overall, just a greater level of stress trying to get everybody fed.

The dining room staff are so accommodating to kids, bring their food early if you want, and we have even had some staff, entertainer, kids with magic tricks! 🪄

And best of all, they don't mind when you're kiddo falls asleep at the table 😅

🌷 Spring is on the horizon… and that means Alaska cruise season is almost here! 🚢

❄️ As the snow begins to melt and the days start getting a little longer, cruise ships will soon return to the waters of Alaska.

It’s truly one of the most incredible travel experiences! There's so much to see, like calving glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and unforgettable wildlife sightings like whales, sea otters, and bald eagles.🦅

Moments like this (we saw whales surfacing right off shore and directly in front of our cruise ship, the Celebrity Solstice) are exactly why Alaska is on so many travelers’ bucket lists. 🐋

If you’ve ever dreamed about seeing Alaska, now is the perfect time to start planning for this summer, or next (to get the best deals and cabin selection!). Cruise season typically runs May through September.

Let's talk about the controversial infinite balcony style room. This past cruise on Star was our first experience with an infinite balcony and I have some thoughts.

I was nervous that we weren't going to like it because Matt and I tend to use our balcony frequently, especially as a way to decompress after the kids are asleep. But overall, we are BIG fans and here's why:

Pros:
1) The biggest benefit I think is that the balcony makes the room feel SO much bigger! And when you're used to a tiny cruise cabin, every extra bit of space feels like a BIG deal.

2) I'm not sure what optical allusion this was, but I felt like we could see so much better out to the ocean. I think it is because there's not a door, curtain, AND balcony rail to see past, but just the clear windows which felt like we were right be the ocean. This also made the room feel bigger.

3) Complete black out status. A regular balcony still let's light in from the sides in the morning and my kids are very sensitive to light, so this was a huge unexpected bonus. It felt like we were in an interior stateroom until we would raise the blinds.

Cons:
1) The AC turns off when the widow is down, so it can get muggy and warm quickly. For us this wasn't too much of an issue because the weather was so nice and not too hot, but I'd imagine for a summer sailing, I would NOT book this type of cabin.

2) There's no wind to dry clothes quickly. Our clothes stayed damp because usually there is wind on the balcony that dries our swimsuits etc. That's why for us, the clothes-line was essential to have when sailing with an infinite balcony.

3) It is open to the room, so there's less of a barrier between inside and outside. We didn't really find this to be an issue because we could draw the curtains and have quiet conversations, but I just wanted to mention it.

Overall, it received a 9/10 from us and in the future we will book this type of cabin when available!

If you know me, you know I'm an open book, and the truth is I am not a light packer.

🛳 Matt and I definitely packed for ourselves, the kids, and 3 hypothetical emergencies 😅 🆘️ 🔊

Peep the infant life vest because *if* we took Griffin on a catamaran (which we didn't), I wanted to make sure he was safe. 😜

Cruise tip: this item is in my top 5 must have items for cruising. We always bring heavy duty wall magnets and a clothes line to expedite the drying process. When you're wearing swim suites so often, it's such a great way to dry them in between wears!

🍫 Every night on the ship they've had a little "extra" thing the kids have loved. So far the favorite has been the chocolate fountain. They are going to be so disappointed with the dessert menu when we get home 😅
