Jewish War Veterans Department of California The Department of California was established in 1938. It has provided continuous service to the veterans of California since then.

The Jewish War Veterans, Department of California engages in a multi-pronged approach to veterans advocacy. DIRECT INVOLVEMENT

The JWV is committed to assisting our hospitalized veterans. To this end, our local posts conduct regular visits to Veteran Administration hospitals across the entire State. These visits build patient morale with Bingo games, cards, toiletry distribution and good old visi

ting. The signature undertaking of the Department of California is the long established “A Gift For A Yank” program. A Gift for a Yank was founded in 1946 by the Jewish War Veterans in partnership with the late great entertainer, Eddie Cantor. Every Christmas for the past 66 years, members of the Jewish War Veterans go to the VA hospitals and distribute gifts to all hospitalized veterans. Many of these brave veterans who gave so much now have no families and no visitors. On Christmas Day 2012 the JWV distributed over 14,000 items to our hospitalized veterans. LEGISLATIVE INVOLVEMENT

The JWV has always been an active participant in the legal process. California is home to nearly 2,000,000 veterans. The JWV is a strong advocate and supporter of legislation that benefits veterans. The JWV is a founding member of the California State Veterans Commanders Council. This Council is comprised of the commanders from all of the various veterans organizations in the State. The JWV meets with fellow commanders 4 times per year to write, support and advocate appropriate legislation. In the 2010 -2012 State Legislative Session over 138 Veterans oriented bills were introduced. Due to the efforts of the JWV and other veterans service organizations, 78 of these bills were enacted into law.

The Jewish War Veterans Department of California agrees with the position of the American Legion.

“Veterans should not be penalized for complying with treatment. Even if such treatment shows improvement in symptoms, the underlying disability does not disappear. Functional management is not total cure.”

While this video is from a few years ago, the JWV Department of California California was at the West Los Angeles VA hospital this morning to continue the depatment’s “Gift for a Yank” tradition. Since 1946 Jewish War Veterans have created gifts for non-Jewish (and Jewish) veterans stuck in VA hospitals over the Christmas holiday.  This year, volunteers created the bags on Monday and were present at the VA today to pass them out. 

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA is proud to continue our tradition of giving to our fellow veterans.

Part of fighting anti-Semitism is to fight intellectually dishonest claims about warfare and the Laws of War underpinning current anti-Semitism.

The intellectual dishonesty of anti-Semites when it comes to the Laws of War would be laughable if the morally corrupt, intellectually weak, and professionally untrained did not dangerously amplify the dishonest bigotry. In this latest article John Spencer notes that, “Their arguments are often filled with fallacies about war, strategy, tactics, geopolitics, and history. Worse, some of these arguments are completely disconnected from the political and military realities on the ground.”

Before 9-11 Iran and its proxy Hezbollah were responsible for more American deaths than any other terrorist organization. Add Iranian supported Hamas, Iranian trained and supplied insurgents in Iraq, and Iranian proxies in Iraq, and Iran and Iranian trained, officered, and supplied elements have had American blood on their hands for decades.

U.S. Army—for months your has had the letter from the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. National Commander demanding a proper investigation and proper accountability for antisemitic comments by The Adjutant General of California that were reported widely in news media and described in the California National Guard Inspector General report.
