We are thrilled to announce the building permits have been approved and construction will begin soon. The next step will be getting Civil work started (power, NG, water & sewer). If you've already reserved a hangar we will be in touch shortly. If you're waiting to see if it's really going to happen now is the time to reach out to us. First new GA hangars at BLI for many years ... These will sell out.

Quick update ...
Whatcom County Planning and Development is almost done with the second review of our plans and could be issuing our building permits as soon as next week if everything looks OK.
Once permits are issued we will be moving to the next phase. We will begin the "CIVIL" work (water, electricity etc...) in preparation for getting these hangars built!

Hangar Project Update:

We wanted to share an update on the progress of the new hangars at Bellingham International Airport.

We are happy to report that the project is continuing to move forward.

As many of you know, no new General Aviation hangars have been built at the Port of Bellingham for many years. As a result, this project has required navigating processes and approvals that have not been used recently. While this has added time to the review process, we have continued to work closely with the relevant agencies to keep the project moving ahead.

We are pleased to announce that the Binding Site Plan (BSP), a critical milestone, has been completed and filed with the appropriate departments. This step formally identifies the property on which construction can occur and establishes the legal descriptions necessary for the upcoming sale of individual units.

With the BSP now complete, the building permit is in the final stages of review and approval. We are encouraged by the progress being made and remain confident that permit issuance and groundbreaking are on the horizon.

Our immediate goal is to complete the civil site work before winter weather arrives, positioning the project for concrete work and vertical construction as soon as possible.

While there is still significant work ahead, we are making steady progress and remain fully committed to bringing these new hangars to Bellingham International Airport. Once the building permit is issued, we expect to provide more frequent updates as construction activities begin.

BIG UPDATE!
The FAA has made a "NO OBJECTION" determination for the Shuksan Building. Now the permit applications can continue. Finishing up the last of the information requests from Whatcom County Planning and Development and should be seeing permits soon. Binding Site Plan almost complete as well.

Finally! After months of work the FAA has approved (or not objected to) the Baker Hangar building site. Final work is happening to get paperwork in for the building permit.

BIG NEWS!
The FAA has determined no issues with Baker Hangar. The new Shuksan Hangar is pending review, but preliminary conversations are very favorable.
We are now moving on to final documents for permits and Purchase and Sale agreements. Things are going to pick up speed. Don't miss out on this opportunity.

How do you "Prove" the Tower has a clear view of the Taxiways before you build?
You use a scissor lift and elevate up to the height of the building and have someone take pictures from the tower cab. 15kt gusts made for a chilly morning, but we showed Baker is totally clear from the tower. Unfortunately, we have to reduce the size of Shuksan because it would block Taxiway F.
Shout-out to the BLI Tower folks that let us up to take photos.

Jan. 23, 2026 Update: Due to potential issues with the line of sight from the ATC Tower to Taxiway F we have to reduce the length of Shuksan from 441' to 350'. This eliminated hangars at the end of the building, but did not effect the majority of the other hangars. The FAA is reviewing this current plan and we are expecting (hoping for) approval in the upcoming week.
