I am super excited to share my newest certification!

After completing extensive training on Alaska cruises with the major cruise lines, I realized I wanted to go even deeper. While cruising is an incredible way to experience Alaska, it only scratches the surface of everything this amazing destination has to offer.

I’ve always loved the idea of Alaska land and cruise tours, but I wanted to be able to help my clients truly explore Alaska—from wildlife and glaciers to national parks, remote lodges, rail journeys, and unforgettable adventures beyond the cruise ports.

That’s why I enrolled in an extensive training program through Alaska’s tourism board, and I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially earned the designation of ACE- Alaska Certified Expert!

This doesn’t mean my training is finished. In fact, one of my favorite parts of being a travel advisor is that there’s always more to learn. Every certification, course, and destination training helps me better serve my clients and create more meaningful travel experiences.

Alaska has quickly become one of my favorite destinations (especially to study), and I can’t wait to help more travelers discover just how incredible the Last Frontier truly is. 🐋🏔️🦅

Ask a Travel Agent 🚢

One of the most common cruise questions I receive is:

“Should I spend the extra money for a balcony cabin, or is an ocean view cabin enough?”

My answer is always the same:

It really comes down to personal preference.

That said, I book far more balcony cabins than ocean view or interior cabins for my clients.

Here’s the difference:

🪟 Ocean View Cabin
An ocean view cabin has a window or porthole that allows you to see outside and enjoy natural light. It’s a great option if you want to avoid feeling closed in but don’t necessarily need private outdoor space.

🌊 Balcony Cabin
A balcony cabin includes everything an ocean view cabin offers, plus your own private outdoor space. Think of it as extending your cabin beyond the walls. You have your indoor living space for sleeping and getting ready, and your outdoor living space for relaxing, enjoying the scenery, sipping coffee, reading a book, or simply listening to the ocean.

One of the biggest advantages of a balcony cabin is access to fresh air. With an ocean view cabin, you can see the ocean, but you can’t step outside and enjoy the breeze whenever you want.

For Alaska cruises, scenic sailings, and many Mediterranean itineraries, I personally think balconies provide incredible value because of the amazing views. For Caribbean cruises, many travelers love having a private place to enjoy the sunrise, watch the ship pull into port, or unwind after a day of exploring.

⭐ My advice?

If the price difference is small and it fits your budget, I usually recommend the balcony. Most people who book one are glad they did.

However, if you’d rather spend that extra money on excursions, specialty dining, drinks, or another vacation altogether, an ocean view cabin can still be a fantastic choice.

There really isn’t a wrong answer—just the option that best fits your travel style.

I’ve had several clients affected by flight delays and cancellations recently, especially on European routes.

What’s happening? A combination of air traffic control staffing shortages, strikes, weather disruptions, and an incredibly busy summer travel season is creating challenges across Europe’s aviation network. Europe has been dealing with a “perfect storm” of aviation issues, and many industry experts are warning that summer 2026 could be one of the most disrupted travel seasons in years.

Most travelers will still get where they’re going, but it’s a good reminder of why I recommend arriving a day or two early for cruises, tours, weddings, and other can’t-miss events.

🌄 Colorado Springs & Manitou Springs: One of Colorado’s Most Underrated Getaways 🌄

If you’re looking for a destination that combines breathtaking scenery, quirky small-town charm, family-friendly attractions, and unique festivals, put Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs at the top of your list.

📍 Start with the iconic Garden of the Gods, where towering red rock formations rise dramatically against the backdrop of Pikes Peak. It’s one of those places that feels almost impossible to capture in a photo.

⛰️ Speaking of mountains, no trip is complete without visiting Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain. Whether you drive the scenic highway, ride the cog railway, or simply admire it from town, the views are unforgettable.

🪨 Adventure lovers can explore the fascinating Cave of the Winds Mountain Park with underground cave tours and thrilling attractions above ground.

Ask a Travel Agent ✈️

One of the questions I get asked all the time is:

“Is travel insurance really worth it?”

My answer is simple: Yes. Absolutely.

The reality is that we never expect something to go wrong on vacation. We don’t plan for illnesses, injuries, weather delays, missed connections, lost luggage, or family emergencies. But when something unexpected happens, travel insurance can save you thousands of dollars and a tremendous amount of stress.

Personally, I prefer Allianz travel insurance for most travelers. I like that their policies are written with the traveler in mind rather than primarily protecting the cruise line, resort, or supplier. While no policy covers every situation, I have found Allianz to offer strong coverage options and excellent support when clients need assistance.

One of the biggest reasons I recommend travel insurance is the medical and dental coverage, especially if you’re traveling outside the United States. Many people don’t realize that their regular health insurance may provide limited coverage—or no coverage at all—when they’re traveling internationally. If you need medical treatment, emergency care, dental treatment, or even medical transportation, those expenses can add up very quickly.

Travel insurance isn’t just about protecting your vacation investment. It’s about protecting yourself.

Now, if you’re planning to climb Mount Everest, wrestle a shark, or participate in some other extreme adventure, that’s a whole different conversation and may require specialty coverage. 😆

But for the vast majority of travelers, whether you’re taking a cruise, heading to an all-inclusive resort, exploring Europe, or visiting a national park, I strongly recommend travel insurance.

It’s one of those things you hope you never need—but you’ll be incredibly grateful to have if you do.
