This continues my post below about the long-distance move from Ohio to Tampa currently in progress. I left Ohio in the morning on 6/1 and arrived in Tampa at 10pm on 6/2. Unload is Thursday, 6/4.

5/31/26: My guys and I loaded a 26-foot U-Haul truck today for a move going from Hartville, Ohio to Tampa, Florida. I took this photo when the truck was about 90% loaded. We still had to load two couches, two beds, a dining room table, two living room chairs, and seven smaller chairs.

In case anyone is wondering, that large safe weighs 500 pounds. After the photo was taken, I used thick cardboard to surround the safe to protect it. Normally I load all of the heavy stuff forward, closest to the cab. For this move, I made the decision to load the safe toward the back for easier on and off. And this is not an issue at all for such a large and new truck with excellent suspension. Lastly, the bench in the photo fit perfectly in that spot and did not need to be wrapped. Items were placed in front of it that kept it in place and protected it.

The customer was concerned whether all of her items would fit. I Tetrised like a demon and it was close, but ultimately we were able to get every item on board. All of the boxes and bins are properly stacked and packed tight, and every item was protected properly. For certain furniture items and other fragile items, I used quilted blankets. The Uhaul blankets sufficed for the other items but I did use two Uhaul blankets on a couple of items for extra protection.
Even with lots of wrapping and disassembly of two beds and a table, we finished in 4 hours, 45 minutes. All items were loaded damage-free, and no damage to the property. πŸ˜‡

I'll take some photos of the unload down in Bradenton and post them when I get back home. Weather forecast for Tampa for the unload: 85 degrees and mostly cloudy.

Another thumbs up = another happy customer πŸ˜ƒ

This is my customer and my #1 helper, Deon. He hired me to move this sleeper sofa from a first floor room to this second floor loft. Took me and Deon about 10 minutes. We also put the mattress back in that he had removed prior to our arrival. He had also removed the door to the first floor room so we could get the couch out. I said to Deon, let's put the door back on and Deon says, oh, I already did it. Just an amazing helper -- a huge asset to my company.

Before we left, the customer gave us a tour of his entire house. He had a lot of amazing memorabilia, lots of collector liquor, many, many great photos, and an amazing kitchen with Amish handiwork and hand-manufactured copper trim above his countertops. Also a gym in the basement, and a huge bathroom with a giant walk-in shower that had been completely redone. Just an amazing house overall. A very nice gentleman. So glad we could get this done for him.

5/23/26 -- Two more "thumbs up" for Kevin The Mover.

We did a job today loading a POD in Aurora. The customers were very nice people and were very concerned about whether all of their stuff was going to fit. These PODS are 16 feet and can hold a lot but when I arrived, I also had some concern.

I told my customers not to stress, that my guys and I would do our best to get it all in. Most of their stuff was boxes, bins, and bags, and some furniture and then a lot of small stuff. My guys and I worked for the next three hours getting everything downstairs and into the POD. They also had a good amount of stuff in their garage. While we worked, the customers brought us all pizza for lunch. Pepperoni -- my favorite.

This job really tested my Tetris skills. I pieced together each box, bin and bag, and made sure to stack them using every cubic inch. It was a miracle, but everything fit to the point that when we put the last item in, there was zero room left. It was that close.

The customers thought it wouldn't all fit in one POD and were going to have to order another one at a cost of over $4000, so I was very happy we were able to fit everything. Ultimately, when the customers can avoid an extra moving expense like that, and when the movers get a free pizza lunch, it's a good day for everyone πŸ™‚

Some of the moves I do involve only one piece of furniture. Pictured on the left is my helper, Frank, finishing the setup of a very nice piece we picked up for the gentleman pictured on the right. He had purchased it from an antique store in Canton. Not pictured is my helper, Deon, who was also a part of this moving job.

This was a very heavy piece. At the antique store, we had to remove the heavy marble top and the two drawers and wrap everything securely. These photos were taken after we had delivered and the setup was complete. And, as always, another happy customer gives us a "thumbs up".

My company was hired to do a move on 5/15 by a customer whose father had passed away. Our job was to move her stuff out of her townhouse and bring it to her father's house, where she would now be living. We also were asked to move furniture within the house to different rooms, and some furniture out to her barn where it would all be stored for donation.

It turns out that there was a 1917 Model T in the barn. Being a car guy, I was overwhelmed to see this beautiful Tin Lizzie, as they were called. You really don't get to see many of them at car shows, so this was a real treat. As you can see in the photo, it featured the new painted black steel radiator shell vs the earlier models that had brass. It also came equipped with a 2.9L 4-cylinder engine, producing around 20 horsepower, and a 2-speed planetary manual transmission with a top speed near 40 mph. Not fast, but it really didn't need to be to get people around.

One of the perks of doing moves for customers is that on occasion you get to see some amazing things and cars are one of them. Some of my customers have had restored cars from the 1920's and after and we talk about the car and its history. And a 1917 Model T definitely has a lot of history to talk about. Model T production ran from 1908-1927, and 15 million were ultimately produced. This one is a stunning example. So happy I got to see it.

This wonderful couple hired my service to unload their 20-foot Uhaul on 5/12/26. They were so great to work with. My helper Deon and I put all of their items exactly where they wanted. We finished in just under two hours. The customers were very satisfied with the service and happy to do a couple of "thumbs up" photos. They said their dog was happy too but hadn't learned paws up yet. That's OK. Woof. Good girl.
