June is National Safety Month and if you operate commercial vehicles, safety isn't just a value. It's a regulatory requirement. For CMV operators, a strong safety culture means qualified drivers, compliant hours of service, maintained vehicles, and a safety program that's actively managed — not just documented and forgotten.

At Prime Fleet Management, safety management is something we handle for our clients every single week. Because the fleets that are safe year-round are the ones that are ready when it matters most. Happy National Safety Month to every operator out there doing the work to keep their drivers and the roads safe. 🦺

Having an ELD doesn't mean you're ELD compliant.

There's a big difference between having a device installed and actually meeting FMCSA's full requirements and most fleet operators don't realize where the gaps are until an inspector is standing at their driver's window.

Unresolved unassigned driving. Log edits without annotations. Drivers who've never been trained on malfunction protocols. A device that ended up on FMCSA's revoked list without anyone noticing. These are the violations that show up in inspections and audits even when operators think they're covered.

Our latest blog breaks it all down, what the ELD mandate actually requires, who's exempt, and what genuine compliance looks like at the carrier level. Link in bio to read the full post.
Don't wait for an inspection to find out where your program stands. 👇

If a DOT auditor showed up tomorrow and asked to see your driver qualification files — all of them — would they hold up?

A missing MVR, an expired medical certificate, an incomplete employment application: these aren't minor issues in a compliance review. They're violations. And for fleets operating multiple drivers, they add up fast.

FMCSA requires a complete Driver Qualification File for every CMV driver, with specific documents that must be current and accurate at all times.

PFM handles DQF management as part of the full DOT Safety & Compliance Team every client receives — so your files are always complete, current, and ready for review.

Here's a question worth asking: does your fleet have someone reviewing driver HOS logs today — or only when a problem shows up?

For most small fleets, HOS monitoring falls through the cracks. There's no dedicated person watching the clock, and by the time a violation gets flagged at a roadside stop, it's already costing you.

Swipe through to see what proactive HOS oversight looks like, and how PFM gives your operation a dedicated HOS Specialist — along with a full DOT Safety & Compliance Team — without the cost of full-time staff.

Do you know exactly where your drivers stand on their HOS clock right now?

Hours of Service regulations are federal law for CMV operators — and HOS violations are one of the leading causes of roadside out-of-service orders, elevated CSA scores, and compliance reviews. The rules cover how long drivers can be behind the wheel, how long their on-duty window lasts, when breaks are required, and how weekly limits reset. Miss any of it, and the consequences show up in your safety data for two years.

We just published a full breakdown of FMCSA's HOS rules for fleet managers — everything from the core driving limits to ELD requirements to the short-haul exemptions operators often misapply.

Read it now at primefleetmanagement.com. And if you're ready to have a dedicated HOS Specialist actively monitoring your fleet's compliance, book a free consultation — that specialist is just one part of the full DOT Safety & Compliance Team every PFM client gets.

Does your fleet have complete, current Driver Qualification Files for every driver on the road?

This is one of the first things FMCSA checks during a compliance review — and it's one of the most common areas where operators come up short. Expired records, missing documentation, and annual reviews that never made it into the file can all add up to violations fast.

Swipe through for a breakdown of what belongs in every DQF and where most fleets fall short. If you want help getting your files in order and keeping them that way, Prime Fleet Management's compliance team is here for exactly that.
