I took a 90-minute historical canal cruise and honestly learned more in an hour and a half than I could have in a full day of walking.

Here is the thing about Amsterdam's canals—they were completely engineered back in the 1600s, and the entire ring is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Floating through it, you’ll quickly learn that those iconic leaning houses have a specific, historical reason they lean (hint: it involves old taxes and moving furniture! 😉), and every single bridge you pass under has its own story to tell.

📌My expert advice? If a canal cruise isn’t on your itinerary yet, add it right now. First day, last day, it doesn't matter. Just go!

I love a good cruise, but if you don't know the unwritten rules, you’ll end up stressed on Day 1. If you're sailing soon, keep these 4 things in mind:

🧳 The Luggage Delay: Your checked bags won’t arrive at your room for hours. Pack a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a change of clothes in your carry-on so you can hit the deck immediately while everyone else is trapped in their jeans.

🍳 The Noon Chaos: The pool deck and buffet at 12:00 PM is pure survival of the fittest. Want a lounge chair or a peaceful lunch? Go before 9:30 AM or wait until late afternoon. You're welcome.

🎟️ The "Sold Out" Trap: Do not wait until you board to book your shows and specialty dining. The best slots fill up weeks before sail day, and there are no do-overs once you're out at sea.

⏰ The "All Aboard" Reality Check: The ship has a strict schedule, and it will leave you if you’re late on a souvenir run. Pier runners make great entertainment for the passengers on balconies, but you don't want to be the main character of that video.
