Man, I'm do love a pure blacksmithing project every now and then. It's like working out a muscle you haven't used in a while.

I got a request for a nice long fire poker, so I figured why not make two!

So I do have one of these available for $150.
It is a few inches short of 5', mild steel, blackened linseed oil finish.

BIG CRACK!

By the color of the steel inside the crack, I know that it cracked during the quench. So, no amount of spine softening would have made a difference!

Otherwise, the rest of the grain looks pretty good!

Time to forge a new one!

I am starting a fantastic new offering at Hemker Blacksmithing!

Open forge night offers former students the opportunity to get back in the forge and work on their own projects at their own pace while utilizing all of the equipment here for an hourly fee.

They take place every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5 to 9 pm.

I decided to do a fancier version because it's pretty stinking cool!

3" blade skinning knife in 1084 and 15N20 mosaic damascus with heirloom fit elk antler and hunter orange G10 with copper pins and lanyard tube.

This thing is so cool and feels awesome in the hand!

I've wanted to develop some outdoorsman type knives for a while. The show last weekend gave me a reason.

These are all 1/8" thick 1084 knives with canvas micarta scales, black G10 liners, and brass hardware fitted in heirloom style for a touch of elegance.

Skinner is about a 3" blade for $200.
Boning knife is a 5" blade for $225.
Filet is 8" for $250.

I took a crack at trying some super simple EDC type knives, and they turned out pretty dang sweet!

Forge textured and stonewashed 1095, accompanied with a leather sheath with pocket clips.

I still have a few available. $125 shipped.
