The broker we worked with on this delivery definitely dropped the ball and left their "VIP" customer hanging on this deal, having me sign a contract on Tuesday afternoon that had me picking this order up in Neenah at 10am Wednesday, with direct delivery to Sturgeon Bay.
The broker waits until 11:52am, 8 minutes from destination, to tell my broker that "ooops we screwed up, this was suppose to be delivered at 8am Thursday, so no one is going to be there. Tell your driver they need to come back the next day instead."
I couldn't believe the audacity of this broker. I just successfully delivered this during a clear day, and now I have to do it all over again during an ice storm? Unbelievable.
I told that this is going to cost them double, if not triple due to the storm coming in. They tell us they will only pay $200 for inconvenience, which is 33% less than the industry standard for breaking contract, causing a layover.
I told my broker to let them know I will happily drop this s**t back off in Neenah, and they can keep their $, which definitely had them change their tone. They agreed to pay me double to go home and come back the next day. All the while the 2 brokers are butting heads over whats going to happen next, I made an executive decision to talk to the kind ladies at the business next door and had them call the owner of the business I am delivering to.
No answer, so I left my business card and proceeded to drive home. About 10 minutes later, I received a call from one of their employees who stated she could meet me there if I could turn around, so I did.
Not only did I complete this delivery, I did so with A+ customer service, receiving multiple compliments about my kindness, my organization skills upon placing the boxes inside establishment, and my choice to turn around and come back so they could remain closed on Thursday. I could have easily drove home and took double pay the next day, but that didn't feel right.
I am in this business to make sure my clients are taken care of, despite the ineptitude of the brokers they choose to work with. I saved this idiot broker $, and I also saved face with their supposed VIP customer, who they were ready to screw over for an additional day or 2 due to their inability to book the correct date.
Rambo Freight isn't money motivated, I do what is right.
