The Jones Act remains a cornerstone of America’s maritime strength, supporting U.S. jobs, domestic shipbuilding and repair, and the supply chains that connect communities across the nation. It helps ensure that economic resilience and national security remain priorities when they matter most.

Today, Crowley’s Vice President of Global Government Relations, Clay Heil, testified before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Coast Guard, Maritime and Fisheries, highlighting the critical role the Jones Act plays in maintaining a strong domestic maritime industry and strengthening America’s supply chain.

The current waiver has not increased fuel supply or lowered costs. Instead, it shifts cargo away from U.S.-flag vessels and American mariners while undermining the long-term investment and market certainty needed to sustain domestic maritime capacity.

From remote communities in Western Alaska to Puerto Rico, the Jones Act supports reliable transportation services, American shipyards and the skilled mariners who keep goods moving every day.

“As policymakers call for more U.S.-flag vessels, more American mariners and greater shipyard capacity, policies that open domestic trades to foreign-flag vessels risk weakening the very foundation needed to achieve those goals,” said Heil.

Crowley remains committed to working alongside the Administration, Congress and industry partners to strengthen America’s blue economy, support coastal communities and ensure the United States remains a strong maritime nation for generations to come.

Today, during the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Maritime Day observance, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) honored the crew of the Stena Immaculate with the Gallant Ship Award for their heroic and lifesaving actions during the North Sea incident on March 10, 2025.

As one of the maritime industry’s highest honors, the award recognizes exceptional seamanship, courage and dedication under extraordinary circumstances. The crew’s swift response and unwavering professionalism helped save lives and demonstrated the values that continue to strengthen America’s proud maritime tradition.

On this National Maritime Day, we proudly recognize the crew of the Stena Immaculate, along with all U.S. mariners whose dedication supports our nation every day. From transporting essential goods and supporting national defense to maintaining critical supply chains, their work remains vital to the security, resilience and prosperity of the United States.

This strength at sea is made possible through the continued commitment, investment and support for the men and women who sail under the American flag.

Congratulations to the crew of the Stena Immaculate on this prestigious recognition, and thank you to all mariners who continue to keep our nation moving.

Preparedness, teamwork and decisive action made all the difference for the crew of our tug Sea Prince in Seward, Alaska.

After hearing that a woman had fallen into the water while attempting to board her vessel, the crew immediately activated a man-overboard response. They quickly deployed a line, safely maneuvered her alongside the vessel and worked together with a neighboring crew to lift her from the water using a life sling while emergency responders were contacted.

Moments like these reflect the professionalism of Crowley mariners and the strong culture of safety that guides our operations every day.

Thank you to Captain Jason Kehn and the entire Sea Prince crew for their calm, skilled and courageous response during a critical situation.

Safety at sea is more than a priority — it is a commitment our mariners uphold every single day.

The Chamber of Shipping of America has honored 48 Crowley vessels and their crews with Jones F. Devlin Safety Awards in recognition of their exceptional safety performance. Collectively, these vessels represent an extraordinary 427 years of operation without a lost-time injury, reflecting the discipline, professionalism and strong safety culture embedded across our fleet.

Additionally, the crews of El Coquí and Stena Immaculate received Ship Safety Achievement Awards for their courageous and lifesaving actions during separate incidents in 2025. From rescuing four sailors in the Atlantic Ocean to protecting personnel, the vessel and the environment during a serious North Sea incident, these U.S. mariners demonstrated remarkable preparedness, leadership and dedication under pressure.

Congratulations to all our mariners and teams for this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for continuing to set the standard for safety and operational excellence at sea.
