Today marks a triumphant milestone at Once Upon A Dream Horse and Carriage as Million Dollar Annie takes her first steps towards freedom after a remarkable recovery from a broken jaw in October 2025. It's time for her to rediscover the joy of running and grazing in the grass. ❤️💕💞🩷

An update on Annie’s broken jaw. It’s been a very long journey. (Oct. 10, 2025). We were so blessed to have the wonderful equine doctors and equine dentists at Ohio State University available to work on our beautiful Clydesdale Annie. She had to have her diet changed to “watered down mash”and no hay. We had to change her feeding schedule from 2 times a day to 3 times a day.

Annie was her own worst enemy removing her first set of wires from her lower jaw just a few weeks after surgery. She returned to OSU for additional surgery replacing those wires with heavier wires and external fixators.
Three weeks from that date she broke her external fixator. We were able to temporary fix it with a hose clamp! We glued the fixator together and screwed the hose clamp many times to keep her jaw together. LOL. But, the day came that the temporary fix became serious. Annie had somehow removed the bottom portion of her fixator which exposed a 3 inch rod that went through her jaw sticking out the side of her mouth. Needless to say she was a mess. Another trip to OSU for repairs. In all those trips we had lost valuable healing time of her jaw. The doctors were able to put a new fixator on her (luckily she didn’t break the wires inside her mouth). They reinforced the other side of her fixator. In all of this she had to have 2 teeth pulled that had died!
On January 13 she had a check up and after x-rays it was decided she could have her wires and fixators removed. However, she still had to remain on watered down feed “slushy” and a slow feed hay bag. Annie has been a trooper through all this. From beginning to this day she had been on Antibiotics 5 different times. Each time was 10 days with 44 pills a day smashed up and given orally with a syringe.

We just had a re-check at OSU with x-rays showing her jaw was completely healed. We have to have our local vet check her every 2 weeks because with the wires on her teeth so long, some of her teeth are loose or have moved. We are out of the woods so to speak, but still monitoring her recovery. Thank you to all that have followed Annie. I now have some free time. Oh and we renamed her to “MILLION DOLLAR ANNIE”

We are pleased to provide a triumphant update on Miss Annie's remarkable journey. Following a successful surgical procedure on Wednesday, her dedicated medical team expertly replaced the bottom right fixator, ensuring the rod remained securely in place. Fortunately, her internal wires remained intact. Annie is now on the path to recovery, receiving a customized antibiotic regimen administered with precision and care. After returning home on Thursday, Annie is resting serenely, surrounded by her equine companions who welcomed her back with joy. If her jaw heals as anticipated, Annie is scheduled for a milestone procedure on January 13, 2026, where both fixators, wires, and rods will be removed. We extend our sincerest gratitude to the exceptional staff at OSU Vet Hospital, who have provided Miss Annie with compassion and outstanding care.
