I have a collection of 11 of these (I’ll share the rest soon) that’s been giving me dirty looks from the corner of the room for the past year or so, and I’m sick of it. Time for them to go away. What you’re looking at are basically decorative Oktoberfest souvenirs. They’re shrunken versions of the actual posters that were mounted on particle board, then sold to tourists to hang in their homes while they awkwardly showed friends and family slideshows of themselves in lederhosen. They’re all right around 12”x17”, but the exact dimensions do fluctuate by an inch or two from year to year. They’re not modern reproductions, and they’re not huge $600 posters either. They’re right in the sweet spot. $65 plus tax each. Local pick up only. DM to claim.

This Snorpy lamp needs a good home. I probably should have thrown this thing out by now, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I actually sold it to someone a while back, then he just never picked it up. Then he brought it up in conversation at Openbaar Market, said he was the one who bought it, and to just do whatever with it. 🤷‍♂️ Since I already got paid for him once, I just want him gone. 15” tall not including the bulb. I picked this thing up a million years ago, and planned on hanging it in my kitchen. Turns out, putting a cabinet there instead was a much better idea. It’s molded plastic, probably 1970s. 27” tall and surprisingly not a single crack anywhere on it. $80 plus tax. DM to claim. Local pick up only.

I’ve been coming up with some pretty wacky and exciting long term plans for Hemstitch Mill recently. I’ll tell you all about them someday, but for now I’m focusing on the fact that they’re going to cost money. That means it’s time to sell some stuff! First up, this 1930s/40s spice cabinet. It’s about 21” across, 14.5” tall, and 6” deep. All 12 ceramic drawers are somehow intact, aside from some teeny tiny chipping around some of the edges (see photos). The labels are in Dutch, but based on the makers mark, the drawers were made by Kispesti Gránit in Hungary. $250 plus tax. Local pick up only. DM to claim. Expect more in the very near future!

I’m not going to shut up about this book anytime soon, so sorry in advance for how annoying it’s probably going to get. Since they don’t ship until the end of the month, I wanted to share some details on here during the wait. Starting with ads.

It took a lot of restraint, but I chose to only include ads when they’re the first documented source for a flavor. Basically, that means they’re only included when the ad on the page is the actual evidence that a flavor existed, and when. And if that criteria wasn’t strict enough, reproductions of ads are only included when the flavor in question is highlighted in some way. In a lot of Stewart’s ads (especially in the 80s and 90s), there was just a giant list in tiny text of every flavor they offered at the time. Those aren’t in here.

There are some instances though, where the name of the flavor in an ad doesn’t exactly jump out at you. I wanted to solve this in a way that wasn’t distracting, and could be repeated consistently across every ad in the book. What I landed on was printing the flavor name itself in burgundy, and I think it works really well if I do say so myself. Do you remember Banana Split?
